Lets analyze your question.

Which shocks are better for off road, the sport shocks or off road shocks.

I would think the answer would be quite obvious.

Hey you didn't answere anything but everyone else who posted gave me useful information. Thanks anyway.

Hey has anyone heard of the bilstein 5150 series? Are they worth the extra bucks if I'm not gonna lift my truck?

P.s. I found some of the 5100 for 125 a pair.. Im gonna keep shopping around though.

I am getting Bilstein 5100's for the front end to level out my truck, does anyone know if its worth it to get the 5100 rear shocks as well? Thanks for any input?

I believe the TRD billstiens are barely better then base model, but someone with any information otherwise let me know, because the TRD sport's come with billstiens as well. If they're the same part, then switching them would be totally pointless. Although it's a mute point since we want upgrades.
Is it a different shock between the sport and off road packages? Someone pull any #'s off their off road, and I'll pull my #'s off my sport.

 Other question, will Toyota do the rear spring TSB on my truck since I already have a lift in there? It's tuff country, so rear is just an add-a-spring. But will they do the TSB? Anyone with actual experience?

They did it for me. :) They had to leave the AAL out because they didnt have a center bolt long enough for it to fit with the AAL. I went and got some new center bolts and installed the AAl myself.

The stock bilstein shocks are freaking junk... Same as just a regular oem shock, its only there for the name so they can charge more...

Get a set of Bilstein 5100's.. Get all 4 thats the only way your going to really benefit from it...

Give Downsouth motorsports a call in Socal, They have specialy valved 5100's just for the Tacoma.. He also gives a discount for custom taco members..

I got set for 250 (all 4) have had them on for a week now and what a difference it makes.. Well worth the money... I'm a very happy customer...

SO check this, my buddy has the exact same truck I do.. even down to the color. However, he has the 5100 on his as well as better tires.. What a difference:applause: !! We went down to the Oxnard river bottom and wow my truck did fine stock of course but with his, the grip and handling off road was night and day!! I want those so bad as soon as I can afford it!! O the other thing I have the street rims on my truck if anyone has the offroad ones they want to sell or get rid of let me know!

Hi Guys, if i wanted to convert an 05 tacoma (non trd) to the off road model, what would i have to buy? I was thinking the progressive springs, the good bilstein 5100 shocks and skidplates? Oh, i guess there's a trd sway bar too? i don't really need the locking rear, but have no idea how much that would cost anyway. How much would i be looking at with all the hardware?

thanks, and i'd have it installed somewhere as i don't really have many tools.

There is a recall out for "soft ride". If your truck has less than 36,000 miles and/or under 3 years old you can get all the suspension replaced for free with TRD stuff.

If you are out of warrenty, then you'll have to pay for it yourself. Plenty of people upgrade their suspension so you can probably find some used stuff.

But answering your question. The simplest wy to get the TRD ride is to replace the shacks with the 5100's and new 4-spring rear leafs.

Fill out your profile so we know where you are from, that usually helps so people in the same area are more likely to assist:waytogo:
