What do you guys think is the best oil out there today? Just wondering what the general consensus is.

A lot of people like Mobil 1 (I use it, and I like it a lot). It's a very good oil, one of the best I would say; but it is definitely not the best.

Here is the best:

NANO TECH RX-1, FUSION OIL, and FLUIDS
Super full synthetic oils and additives engineered for Top Secret Performance!
FUSION
RX-1 NANO TECH

RX-1 NANO TECH is a revolutionary product that will increase the performance and life of your engine. Used with engine oil, the product coats the internals of your engine with an extremely thin Diamond /Graphite layer. (only 5-10 nanometer thick) The concept is not new to motor sports, however, RX-1 NANO TECH is unique in the materials and technology employed. The result is cutting edge performance technology for your engine.
$130 per treatment

I think the price speak for itself.
Oh, the fact that it has nanotechnology in it.......
Yeah, that's far superior than the regular Mobil 1.....but then again, spending 130 bucks per oil change.....that's a bit steep.
Just my .02

Any of the full synthetics will serve you well. It all depends on who's propaganda you want to believe. They all have one test or the other that says their's is best.

Personally, I'm a Amsoil fan, but many people would rather stop by their local auto parts store and buy what they need. I perfer a few online clicks and it shows up at the door in a few days. I have 4 cars that I maintain, so I tend to order in bulk. If you plan on spending $100 or more a year the prefered customer program gets you dealer price and more than covers the $20 annual fee.

The other post pointing you to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ is a good one. That will give you more information than you can digest!

i tend to think since some manufacturers choose Mobil1, like GM & Volkswagen, for synthetic oil, then it kind of tells you something. Anyways i have been using mobil1 for the past 7 years, on my old turbo honda and tacoma, and i have been satisfied.

I've run Mobil one in my other vehicles for awhile. It's definately good stuff and pretty affordable ($20 for 5 quart jug at Wally-world). Oil came out mostly clean at each change.

I decided to go with AMSoil & filter for the 'coma. I want to see how clean it come out, and I might go with the extended intervals if it lasts.

Lot's of good stuff out there. As long as you do regular maintenance and oil changes, you turck will last a good long time whatever you choose.

Amsoil SAE 5w 30 with the extended change filter. It gets shipped to my door in 24hrs

Been running it in my SC 2000 4Runner. 100,000 hard miles and it doesn't use a drop during the 7500mile intervals.( Yea I know your suppose to get 15000 miles on a change but I just cant do it)

If you need that extra "peace of mind" to use the extended intervals, just have you oil analyzed at each regular interval. The results will tell you whether it really needs to be changed or not. ;)

Still on my very first interval, with the new truck. I just might have it analyzed and we'll see what happens.

Regular Dino oil will break down after a while and not do as good of a job. Synthetics hold up to the heat a lot better, and overall just lube up the engine better.

Having the oil come out nearly clean is not a bad thing at all. Fist off it takes several oil changes to get to that stage. Second, it means your filter is working good, and third it means you arent getting a lot fo crap in your engine. There is nothing wrong with a nice, clean, almost new looking oil.

I use Mobil 1. Used Amsoil twice, but changing every 3,000 miles anyways I couldnt live with the costs. So Fully synthetic Mobil 1 and their filter is the way I go.

And my oil is far from Black when I change it

will it effect my turbo truck if i switch from castrol gtx to mobil 1 fully synthetic ....

This is basically a Chevy, Dodge, Ford debut thats never ending and has no real answer..

I will say that you should stay away from the oil additive by Lucas because at high rpm's it causes the oil to foam/bubble up and you can't lubricate your engine with air bubbles..

local machine shop showed me what its all about..

they cracked open 4 quorts of chevron 10w30 into a bucket and told me to hold a drill with a whip on it and go wide open on it for 30 seconds..

I did it, no change, they simply added a little bit of the Lucas oil stabilizer and I whipped for another 30 seconds and the oil got all bubbeled up and milky looking..

would not recommend it unless you love your local machine shop..

For the record, I like Mobil 1 5w30..
I've town down engines that I built from day one and after a break in period, i ran it with nothing but Mobil 1 and when i tore em down to mod internals, the bearings still has some of the break in layer still in place (clivite 77's)

so somethings got to be right..

I've been using mobile 1 for almost 8 yrs now. good stuff I guess. at the time when I first bought it the 15w-50 gallon jug said it was recommended for turbo & supercharged engines. then I supercharged the truck & havent had a problem since. I also use slick 50 engine treatment cuz it has some kind of engine warranty & I was doing some wailing on the truck right after the blower install. But after seeing an episode of trucks on spike tv recently it makes me want to change to royal purple. I saw a truck GAIN about 5 horsepower just from an oil change to royal purple!!!

Ponder this, what type of oil was in the vehicle from the before test?

I've heard simular claims on all sorts of different oil's.

Ya just can't go wrong with synthetic anything nowadays for engine longevity. :waytogo:

#24 ·
that's true, you make a good point. only reason I didn't try it is cuz of the price. in my town only 1 store sells royal purple which is napa & it's like $12 a quart. that would come out to almost $100 oil change w/ filter & slick 50 additive. which brings me to a new question. sorry for threadjackin but does anybody else use slick50 or knows if it really works???

I have used castrol 10w-30 in every vehicle i have ever owned, All were fairly high mileage and have never had a problem. I change my oil about 4,000- 4,500 miles, and oil comes out semi-clear. I think it has as much to do with actual care than what product used.

i use Lucas oil in my Dixie chopper, not a additive, but a 20w50 I believe.I get it from summit racing online. They sell it in quarts and five gallon pails.Ive read allot of good things about it .debating weather to use it in my taco and corolla or not.just got them recently and haven't had to change oil yet.any opinions on it?

What do you guys think of Valvoline synthetic. Ive been running Valvoline 5W30 syn blend in my taco for 3 years and never had a problem I change my oil every 3-4g miles and its usually pretty clear. I only recently (in the last year) change to Valvoline full synthetic and it seems to work ok.
