since most drifters do use a 2 way lsd for their cars, and ive heard that 2 ways are pretty much like a locked differential, would a locker differential for a truck be good for drifting in a tacoma?

Only if you want to drift 180 to 720 degrees.

i would think that with a locking diff. it would start to drift too soon, b4 you planed on drifting, causing problems. where an LSD there is a bit of give so you can basicly control when you want the wheels to break lose and when you don't want the wheels to break lose, where in a locking diff. you don't control it as much as it just happens, and it does not happen when you want it to.

i would think it would be about as controlable as drifting with an open diff. when you drift in an open diff. it does not drift then it does not drift, then all of a sudden it whips around making very small room for error and making it very easy to spin i'm sure you can drift with a locker (and i've seen people do it all the time in the dirt, but dirt's a whole diffrent world) it would just be a lot EZer with a LSD. (but don't take my advise as fact, i have never driven a car/truck with a locker, but i have seen trucks with lockers try to drift. and i have drifted in both open and limited)

if you're open diff right now, don't even waste your time/money on a locker if all u want to do is drift, go out and get a LSD, drifting with a LSD is childs play, once i tried drifting with LSD i found out it's almost too easy, limited slip will make anyone look good. trying to drift with an open diff. now that's an art fourm. however if you've got a locker right now, i would go find a nice empty parking lot (where you don't have a chance of hitting anything) turn your locker on, and give it a shot to see how it reacts.

edit: sense your user name is "2rz..." i'm going to assume you don't have a locker because they don't offer lockers on mini's, you're open diff right now, in that case go find a mid 80's toyota supra with a LSD in it, and put that in you're truck, that would be the cheapest and probaly best for drifting.

Your tires will explode before you get your money's worth with a locker... Having your inner rear wheel not give during a turn is brutal...

It's less brutal on gravel since the ground gives way... The loose floor also keeps the car going sideways compared to pavement where you have to use the gas more often...
