Any one have advice on replacing the front crank seal on a 2.7L?
At first I thought it was the oil pump gasket, but after a little reading, I'm thinking the crank seal.
Step by step w/ pics or vids would be great. New to this.
Thanks.

(1) What year Taco is this? (I'm not sure it makes much difference, but better safe than sorry ... )

(2) Here (attached) is a diagram from the 2003 FSM showing an oil seal behind the No. 1 Crankshaft Pulley, sitting inside the Timing Chain Cover. Is this the seal you suspect?

(3) If so ... It looks to me that the timing chain cover removal procedure would be the most you'd need to do to change it. I'm not sure you'd have to pull the timing chain cover; I'm just saying that seems to be the most 'surgery' you'd have to do.

Post to let me know what year we're talking about, and I'll post the closest-year procedure for removing the timing chain stuff.

I don't have FSM documentation for the 1999 model year (I lost a lot in the fire that destroyed my residence in 2013). However ...

I've checked the 3RZ timing chain components diagrams, as well as removal and installation procedures, for years prior to 1999, and they appear identical to the 2003 version.

So here (attached) are the 2003 versions of the timing chain (cover) removal and installation procedures.

Curiously, the oil seal isn't mentioned anywhere. I'm still not sure how much you gotta remove of / around the timing chain cover to replace it ...

Because you have to take every thing apart, Radiator, belts water pump, timeing cover, chain. on and on. Probably 8;or10 hours each way. nce you get to the seal you will know what to do Ive seen it documented in different places because Ive been considering this for two years. Its not hard but very precise in the way you handle every aspect. You screw up and you got to do it again. You have to plan because you might as well replace all the components.and gaskets. Its just time and money , but depending on the condition of your truck well worth it. The trickier part is the correct installation of the timeing chain not the seal.>>>>>>>>>> I just went on U Tube its on there Look up FRONT MAIN SEAL 99 Tacoma..
