First, I have a 98 radiator support. Second, I dont see how it would be any different from a 99. From 97-2000 used the same headlights and the same grille mounting locations on the support....it shouldnt be any easier to do a 01 conversion on a 99 as it is a 97.
unless the 97 is 4wd. 4wd still uses the sealed beam halogen lights found on the 95.5-96 2wds. so only the 2wds use the H4 bulbs with the plastic headlights found from 97-00.

Ok so i have a 97 tacoma and did a 01-04 front end. I bought a core support, headlights, corners, grille, hood and bumper. but was trying to avoid swaping the core supports. i was able to get everything to fit but my corners are not flush with the fenders(attached on the picture) does anyone know if its like that becasue i didnt swap core suports?

I didn't swap the core support in my 98 and my corners lined up much better than that. I just happen to have the drivers fender and corner light in my basement and I couldn't duplicate your issue. Like previously posted, are they aftermarket parts? Poor aftermarket parts is the only reason I can come up with.

Can you post a pic with one of the corner lights removed?

The corners i orderd off ebay. But i thought it would be the core suppprt because i was told if its 97 and earlier you would have to swap the core supports. Also my grill is not clipping into the holes its supposed to only the on the headight is where they clipped in the right way

That's intriguing to me. All but one of the grill mounting points lined up perfectly on mine. Maybe there IS a difference between 97 and 98 2wd core supports. My corners are from Ebay as well. I really doubt they are the issue.

i just read through all this to see if it was in here. i have a 99 that i want to put the 01-04 front fenders on to cover wider tires.can i just install fenders from an 01 onto my 99 ??? or do i need to buy a diff core support ,inner fenders, etc??

from what ive seen, only fenders should be needed.

but i come here for the profesional advice from everyone.

I don't believe you need the core support if you're just going to swap the fenders. But just so you know, if you're only swapping the fenders, your corner lights won't fit flush into the fender. 01-04 corners fit 01-04 fenders, and the same for the 98-00's.

Maybe look into getting aftermarket fender "flares" like bushwackers or fiberglass fenders or something. Certain ones stick out more than stock to accommodate wider tires.

You'll need to remove the outside headlight mounting brackets from the core support, as those are built into 01-04 fenders. Other than that they will bolt right up.

And as previously mentioned, get the newer corner lights.

Edit: After re-reading your post, kusy, just get 95.5-00 4wd fenders. They are the same as the 01-04 fenders in appearance and width, without needing unneccessary mods/purchases for your truck.

iight so in the past week there have been about 5 threads about this . . .

Gen 1 (1995.5-1997)
Gen 2 (1998-2000) = will fit on a Gen 1
Gen 3 (2001-2004) = will fit on a Gen 1 & 2

Parts Needed for Gen 3 Swap:

Hood
Hood Weather Stripping
Grill
Headlight Fillers (pieces that go under the headlights)
Headlights
Corner Lights
Lower Valence Lights
Bumper
Bumper Cover (piece that sits on top of the bumper
Lower Valence
Bumper Brackets
Support Bar (this piece sits behind the lower valence)

Optional Parts:

Hood Latch
Headlight Mounts (although mine came with them keveinthefawkers did not)

Parts you can keep:

Fenders
Hood Brackets
Core support

Install:

everything bolts up rather easily except for headlights (this may just be for the Gen 1 trucks) i had to drill new holes and make the prior headlight holes larger to compensate for the larger Gen 3 headlights

we also had to weld on the lower valence support bar . . . .

you have to make an extension for your hood release . . .

i also used self tappers to screw in the corner light bracket (which they came with when i purchased them)

other then that everything snaps and bolts in

Part Locations:

since none of the local salvage yards have any parts for these i had to order them all

www.partstrain.com
www.rockauto.com
www.ebay.com

these were all the cheapest ( this swap isn't that cheap ! )
Would it be possible to put a 2000 front end

Would it be possible to put a 2000 front end on a 2003 Tacoma? I crashed in the front end in my 2003 Tacoma and found a 2000 Tacoma parts truck

Yes, it's possible. However ...

You need to specify exactly what model Taco (5-lug; 6-lug) both the receiver and donor vehicles are.

It was still the case during the 1998 - 2000 generation that the 5-lug and 6-lug front ends had different valances, bumper stuff, and grilles. You should be able to transplant the whole front clip (everything including these pieces).

Putting an older front clip on a later generation pre-2005 Taco was always a rare maneuver. There wasn't much detail on how it was done because it wasn't done all that often.

Some cutting and drilling new fastening points will be required.

The front end was substantially re-designed for the '01 - '04 generation. The body lines where the front fenders meet the cab (at the A-pillar) won't exactly match.

The mounting hardware and pieces for the front bumper / valance all changed from 2000 to 2001+, so you'll probably need to transplant all that as well. This is where you'd be most likely to run into cutting and re-drilling issues.

Hope this helps ...

i would get the gen 3 01-04 hood latch 30bucks . and small things like the clip for the corner light that goes on the fender 5 bucks each. also i would get the headlight support bracket 20 bucks each side and mount it on the fender. keeps everything lined up. also for the people with the older front end without the 4wd prerunner fender you should get a new fender liner also new fender brackets to let everything sit right
Where can i get the headlight suppory brakets?

Unless they're still available through Toyota (which I doubt) you'll probably have to source them from a recycling service or a junkyard.
