umm.. flooding I am guessing? kind of hard to spill exactly on that  first of all I am assuming you have a wiring diagram. So that should make things fairly easier. You're going to get a bottle of alcohol (probably with a sprayer) and clean that wiring. and probably take about an inch to two inches back on all the wiring to make sure corrosion free. Everything will be pre-programed on the ecu, so need to worry about that.

rt, it will be pre programmed but will it work in my specific truck even though it is same exact model ecu? like could it have the same model number but be for a manual transmission instead of my automatic? but from what i have researched thus far,. the keys with chips in them , like mine, have to be programmed into the ecu, this is some antitheft proofing from toyota. but then i read that the keys run on a totally seperate computer. so i dunno thats why i am tryin to get more info from u guys.

yea but i read all sorts of different things. like key codes, transponders, chips bla bla bla , so i asked in first post what all needs to be done to make it work because my mech doesnt do keys.....
The ECU controls the underhood functions..
The computer in the kick panel will handle key/security issues..

There are only two basic part numbers for 2005+ ECM's - one for the 2TR and one for the 1GR. However, the ECM needs to be ordered 'by application' (meaning you have to specify what model / equipment it's supposed to work with).

I don't know if the differences among application-specific versions of either ECM are a matter of hardware, firmware, or something that can be reprogrammed by reflashing.

I'm not sure the key stuff has a direct bearing on the ECM itself. The 2007 Tacoma has an outboard Transponder Key ECU module that has two connections to the ECM. I'm guessing this Transponder Key ECU is the thingie that needs to 'code to match' your key(s), not the ECM itself.

The 2007 1GR ECM wiring documentation doesn't mention the Transponder Key ECU or the associated ECM terminals among the other input sources, so it's difficult to tell to what extent the ECM relies on that outboard unit.

thank u kindly ,ok guess i will just have to wait and see if keys work once the new ecu is installed. thanks for the help to those who helped. to those who have nothing better to do with there life but pour water on a drowning man, well i wish u well in your quest for true happiness and protection in the real world.
When you get it working again, wrap it with saran wrap:waytogo:

all of the part numbers for these tacoma ecms start with 89661.
mine is 89661-04C42, the one i have on the way did in fact list what engine it was for and a few other things that match mine. i just am hoping there are not any small differences that werent listed. if so im sure it can be reflashed, but toy is goin to have to do it.;-(
well i will see if i crank up by installing, then go from there.
Toyota and lexus really have a tight lid on flashing these things or editing updateing them. i just found a tsb giving instructions to the workers on how to flash to change start calibraition.shows what tools they have to use and how and in what order. crazy thing is, one thing they have to do is use a battery diag station and up the volts on battery to a certain amp just to get it to go in flash mode.

You cannot get a used ECU and just plug it in and have it work. Those days are long gone.

The vehicles VIN and mileage has to be programmed into the new ECU and then it has to be paired with the key transponder module. Then each key you have has to be reprogrammed to work with the key transponder again.

ok now that makes sense.so no way to get just one key programmed to it, then the other 2 just like it I can do those myself if i have one that works?
