Amp recommendations?

I am thinking about adding an amp to my system to power my infinity 6x8s. They handle up to 60 rms. What is the best bang for the buck as far as a 4 channel or I might just eliminate the rear speakers and emphasis the fronts and in that case a 2 channel.

Also kinda wondering at what point do I need a higher output alternator??

Thanks

What ohm-age are the Infinity speakers? 4 ohm?

Are you looking to buy a new amp, or would you consider a reliable used one?

I'd suggest a good used old school 4X50W or 2X50W amp. With any luck daveds50 will show up with some recommendations (or maybe even some offers).

Otherwise, take a trip over to DIYMobileAudio and browse some of the 'what is your favorite...' threads to gather some recommended brands and models.

try to find an ADS PQ10, good amp, i wouldnt worry about batteries or alternators for that small of an amp...

i have two amps with the stock electrical system and its fine, sure i could get some more out of it, but meh, for the price of the electrical system, ill just stick with what i got:waytogo:

Audio Clinic - ebay store

USB 4085 - $80.00
4 x 85 @ 4ohms at 12.9 volts
4 x 120 @ 2ohms at 12.9 volts
2 x 240 @ 4ohms bridged at 12.9 volts
2 x 85 @ 4ohms or 2 x 120 @ 2ohms plus 1 x 240 @ 4ohms bridged at 12.9 volts.
THD less than 0.01%

USB 4065 - $60.00
4 x 65 @ 4ohms at 12.9 volts
4 x 80 @ 2ohms at 12.9 volts
2 x 160 @ 4ohms bridged at 12.9 volts
2 x 65 @ 4ohms or 2 x 80 @ 2ohms plus 1 x 160 @ 4ohms bridged at 12.9 volts.
THD less than 0.01%

And no, I have no affiliation with Audio Clinic at all. I have heard and seen the gear he sells though and if I could manage to sell the eD Nine.2's that I have ($150.00 each or $250.00 for the pair), I would be running the US Acoustics stuff.

The USB series US Acoustics are actually USX amps - Hardly "cheap crap". These are significantly better than the Chinese crap being put out by a majority of amp makers today. Like I said, from my personal experience with them.

But again... dont take MY word for it: Here is a decent list of amp rankings - take a look under "Good Quality Amps"

They arent the Zed-Made USA series - but I suppose you figure those were cheap pieces of crap too...

However since they are ranked pretty solidly among amps like the Sundowns, JL Slash's, Treo's and the Phoenix Gold Xenon series amps, and I wouldnt qualify any of those amps as "cheap crap" - I think I am safe in recommending that anyone short of a hardcore SQ whore would be more than happy with the solid performance, low noise floor and longevity of the USB/USX series of US Acoustics amps.

I know all about the USX amps and yes, they are still made in China..
they are assembled in the USA..
Like I said, You'll be lucky to get a year out of it..

their ratings aren't for long term use..
cheap crap as in cheaply made, nothing to do with price..
Once a brand gets built up by a good rep, thats when they
get cheap and have it made overseas.. Just look at Alpine.. :D
USX AMps...you should buy it.. ;)

Sorry, the USB/USX amps (not the blue-bar versions) arent made in china, they are made in Korea - might not seem like much of a difference, but it is huge in terms of quality. Of the USB/USX amps that I have personally heard and seen, they are all working perfectly... a couple of them are well over a year old and others are well under, having just recently been installed.

If you need it to be 100% made in america... good luck, there are very few. I think the list starts with Tru and ends with Zed - and I could be wrong, but I think thats the whole of the list.

Either way... if you have the choice in buying an Alpine, JL, Etc... or a US Acoustics - you could spend the 300.00 or more on a Chinese made JL or 80.00 on a Korean made US Acoustics... Or, the 600.00 on a Zed/Tru and never be able to tell the difference in sound or "quality" of build.

Korea, yes... so are Boss, Crunch, etc. i would not say Korea is better at all, although there are a few acceptable amps that come from there.

you may be impressed with Zed, but i am not. i have a personal story that would blow your mind.

besides, there are Zed designed amps that i would rate in the POS category...

amplifier design is not rocket science. in fact, it is the easier pieces to engineer in car audio.

I'd just go the route of having my older classic amps rebuilt by Dave.. ;)
that has been keeping me very busy lately. there are very few amps these days that will compare to the "old school" in both sound and build quality.
