Alright, here goes. This all started when my stock POS HU took a crap on me. Back in the 90's I had a 4x4 Hilux std cab that went through multiple system changes ending with 3 JL 10's fiberglassed into the rear with two sets of JL components in the doors and kickplates, all run by PPI and Soundstream amps and an Alpine HU, EQ, and Electronic Crossover. With that being said, I've gone a LONG time without good tunes in the truck. As with everything these days, I was on a serious budget with this install so it started at the junk yard. There I purchased 4Runner tweeter pods for 5 bucks.:meemee: The next day I found an Alpine head unit with Ipod cable on Craigslist for 50 dollars, SWEET! Another find on CL a few days later landed me an Already custom built for MY tacoma sub box with a JL 10w0(NICE FIND), an Alpine mono sub amp, JL tweeters, and Boston Acoustics 6.5" 2 ways. I got all of this in work TRADE. :headbang: So really it cost me a few hours in labor.
I already had all of the wiring for the amps so I just had to buy the HU harness and dash kit, 20 bucks. Few days later on the CL again a PPI 2 channel amp comes up for 20 bucks, SOLD, All parts were now purchased :clapping:So all in all, I'm in this system 95 dollars! and it sounds BADA$$!

Heres the pics of the build.

Truck torn apart, Head Unit Harness, solder and heat shrink. Bostons in the Modified door baffles. The door panels also had to be modified to make these fit. $20 dollar PPI amp.

Heres the Sub amp under the Drivers seat. Power wires run on this side of the truck and audio cables run on the other side.

Here is the PPI amp wired up for the mids and highs under the passenger seat.
Space behind for the sub box. Both amps are wired indepandently to the battery, ground and RCA's. Cut Jack bracket out.

Here is the JL installed. When I found out this box came out of a Tacoma, I was . It only takes up a couple of clicks on the seat so it's not too bad.

Next came putting in the JL tweeters. These tweeters retail for 200 bucks! They freakin' scream.... I decided to drill a hole in the door for the speaker wire to run through. there is a crossover on the other side of the hole and the wire has heatshrink on it to protect it at the bends. I hot glued the tweeters in the pods and soldered/heatshrunk them too. Also, I drilled holes in the sail panels for the mirror mover thing because I didnt want to cut it off. I will be coming up with something to go over this and screw to it using its existing screw hole.

Here is where I have my IPod/IPhone cable. I will be making a bracket like I did on my Envoy, either close to the same place as the Envoy's or off of the center console somewhere close to where it is now.

And thats it! Messed around with tuning for a while and this thing sounds pretty damn good I must say, especially for less than $100.00 Thanks for looking.
Almost forgot, Whilest at the junk yard I aquired a Wiper stalk out of I believe a 97 4runner for 10 dollars. Swapped it out in 5 minutes and good to go.

:jawdrop:

Great initiative, patience, use of 'sweat equity', payoff, and writeup!! :waytogo: :applause:
How many clicks would you say that it actually took up? I have a 2000 reg cab and the only thing that has kept me from finding/building an enclosure for behind my seats is that I don't want to lose too much leg room, considering that I'm a fairly tall person.. lol
I think its 2 or 3. I'm 6' and can't afford to lose any leg room either, thats why I was happy to find a box to go behind the passengers seat. I don't lose any leg room  And mine is actually a 2000 also, I was just a lil intoxicated when I posted.:brickknoc
Haha alright, thank you. 2 clicks isn't too bad of a loss, but at 3 my knees start rubbing the steering column. Let's hope a dual sub enclosure for a '00 fits the same as your passenger side does.
$95 for all that. wow that was a score. Great install!
