Wiring issue for AV/NAV unit

I bought and installed the AVN6600 that Dave suggested I buy. Awesome unit, sound from it is exceptional. Only issue that I'm having is that I have not hooked up the speed pulse wire yet because I have no clue as to where it is. I would think this would explain why my NAV doesn work. And why the DVD's play without me having to flip the bypass switch. Exactly what signal is the unit looking for and where do I tie into this at? As soon as I get this all figured out on sat I'll post pics from the install in my old thread.

If it's a manual transmission, you're looking for a red wire with yellow stripe leading from the vehicle speed sensor to the instrument cluster.
Ah yes more info on my part would help. Yes 2005 tacoma, 5 lug, 5 spd, 2tr-fe. Do you have a wiring diagram that I can look at that would show me where on the harness I can splice into it?
Here's the 2005 cluster wiring diagram, but it won't help you locate the wire.

Hmmmm... well I will have to look at that document later. Does anyone know of the general area other then right at the cluster?
You can intercept the vehicle speed sensor line at connector IH1 (as illustrated in the diagram). This connector is up under the dash to the right of your glove box.
cool thanks randy. Was looking at the forum from my phone so I couldn see the attachment. And I will tomorrow B, I'll just post up in my old thread. "THE NEW INSTALL"
Thanks Phil, I googled your HU last night and it looks tight. Im sure it sounds as good as it looks
Not sure if this helps but I have a Pioneer double-DIN Touch screen in my supra. The wire for the e-brake just has to be grounded out. It can't be a full-time ground, because the head-unit is looking for a e-brake release, or a change of current. I just used a 2 position rocker switch. One wire to head unit, one wire to ground. DVDs while driving requires throwing a switch. This is pretty common setup. Not sure how else it could be done without a switch. No nav system on mine though.

Nice head-unit!

Yeah I was looking for the speed sending signal that purtained to the GPS. Thanks to Randy I found it and tapped into it. As for your answer, yeah taht is common with non-navi unit pioneers. DId the same on this Eclipse just in case I get pulled over by the cops I can turn off the ground and viola "what dvd officer?"

its very easy to do it without a switch.....use a relay. 86 & 87 connect to ground, 85 connect to the remote lead, and 30 to the parking brake lead.

allows you to watch DVDs while you drive and you dont need to be flipping any ghetto rigged switches everytime :waytogo:

Yeah except you cant flip it off if you get pulled. Not to mention my "ghetto" switch is smaller then a dime and his hidden in my cubby flip down on the left side of my steering wheel. And on the Eclipse it doesn need to see an open close loop. Just closed works.

hitting the switch will take no longer than switching to radio and turning off the movie
True but its easier to go to stay on movie and show him that only sound comes out. Cops are getting smarter out here. Had a couple friends pulled over and the cops knew how to switch to dvd.
