my 99 5vz 4wd taco used to get 18mpg city (or when i really pounded on it) and as high as 27 hiway

my new 02 5vz 4wd taco has yet to brake the 16mpg mark, the average has been about 15.5

this last weekend i went to lake george and used more than a quarter tank of gas drifting out on the ice (between 4,000rpm and red line) then drove home, and refilled just now. did the math again only to find all that drifting got me down to 14.5 mpg average

like i said... what the hell?

i just changed all drivline oils and engine oil (bout a month ago)
and just had it aligned about 3 weeks ago.

I gained 1-2 mpg city/hwy just by replacing the front A/F O2 sensor with a new Denso one. It was original and had 75k on it, and causing an intermittent P0135 code. Truck runs better now too.

yep, cleaned maf, cleaned throttle body, sea foamed the engine.

they probably are original, i know i have to replace the rear one (already purchaced) the check engine light is on because of it. but i want to wait till i get my new exhaust (sts turbo)
My buddy has an 03' 5vz 2wd 4 door with a k/n intake and a muffler and he can't get any better than 17 mph highway. Maybe the 01-04 trucks are heavier or have more smog crap on them or something...?

It's a, non TRD, prerunner with very street friendly tires. SORRY forgot to write PRERUNNER...lol
wait.... hold up..... you 27mpg out of a 4x4 v6 :eyecrazy:

my 99 ext cab 4x4 3rz auto made 22mpg AT BEST mix driving and more like 19 drivin like normal...... now lifted with 33s and 4.56 gears im luck to get 17.. more like 15-16:(
That sound about right.
I had to hyper mile the he'll out of my 3rz to average 27-30 mpg in the summer and 25-28 in the winter.

16-18 is about right for a 3.4.
sooooooo 21mpg is low for a 3rz 4x4 auto??
No I got 19-22 driving normal

with the aid of a scangauge2 I was able to do better. Took alot of practice. And not going over 60 mph. Happy spot in my 98 was anot 47-50 mph.
Been getting 33-35 out of my i4 camry with wider and taller tires. Doin about 60 mph. Highest limit to work is 55. Car shifts to fifth at 43-45 mph and does great. If it wasn't for my 3 mountains it would do better.

Op look how modified your older truck was the supecharger alone raises volmetric efficenty
hmm... well im really not that worried about it. but if someone is making 28mpg driving normal and im only getting 20 then i have a problem... :puke:
I get anywhere from 17-19mpg in my V6 Prerunner... I have gotten 23mpg on the highway at 80mph... not sure how that works but it happened
Dont worry my 98 is dead. Spot of frame rust.
If ur really worried get a scan gauge and watch it.
Now I have 3 redlights to work and curvy mountainous roads.

I would love to live down south where it is flat.
lol i live on the flats and STILL get like 16 (now its lifted on 33s) my 2rz 5speed get like 24 running 80 on the highway... it would do alot better but at 80 it turning some reps..... no tach.. base modle :(
soo..... i get a new 02 sensor and it should be good?
Didn't have have Smaller tires on the older on?
3
on what?

on my 99 i had the stock 31's for the winter, 20" KMC Stealths for summer and 16's to race with
