I have a 97 Tacoma 2wd with the 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder engine. I want to know if my Tacoma has a timing belt or chain? Most of the vehicles I've seen have timing belts that wear out. If I have the timing chain, does it ever need to be replaced? Or do they wear out?

Our trucks with the 4 cylinder engines have a timing chain, at least the 2.4 for sure, the V6 owners (lucky bastards) have a timing belt. As with any moveable part will eventually wear out, and will let you know by a ticky rattly sound, even worse than normal. If you are concerned about your chain, stop by your Toyota dealer and ask one of the techs if it sounds normal to them.
