Spark plugs for turbo engine

What spark plugs/gaps are you turbo guys running (and why)?

Service manual specify:
Recommend spark plug - DENSO K16R-U11 or NGK BKR5EYA-U (v-power...comes with a .032 gap)
Correct electrode gap - 1.1mm (0.043in)

with a turbo, has anyone tried running a heat range cooler or have the part numbers?

I would run 1 range cooler up to 8 psi, 2 ranges cooler up to about 18, the main reason is that a hotter plug may cause detonation

As far as gap, up to 15psi I would go to about .028 gap

I didnt think the plug listed would have such a large gap unless the truck used a super high output coil. My .02
the supposed part number for one heat range colder for the ngk's would be:

BKR6EYA-U and they came on a number of toyotas.
im going turbo as well, and if i dont go a degree lower in spark plug i will be having detonation? If boost is boost, i was supercharged with 9.5 psi before and never went colder on my sparkplugs with just tuning in open loop, and had no detonation, should i consider spark plugs now, since im going tubo (but my max boost will only be 6psi) but with no tuning in open loop?
Someone enlighten me on what you mean "1 range cooler".....are they higher grade plugs that handle more heat? or run cooler? Im also boostin and I need some plugs.......

Colder plugs means they run cooler, they transfer heat more rapidly. Their fire tip is colder and prevents detonation.
Plug too hot = detonation,
too cold = carbon fouling.
I run the NGK Iridiums 1 step colder plugs in my truck, BKR6EIX. About 028" gap too.

shayne
I run .44 gap and NGK BKR6 (a step colder). I do not fear spark blow out @ 8 psi.
FWIW, I run part #2668 BKR8EIX with a .014" gap.
What boost do you see that your gap is so small Alex? Over 25psi? :eyecrazy:

:jawdrop:
I wish:bow:
what would you guys recommend for a 3rz running 17psi on 98 octane

30-31 lbs...

I need a better boost controller. It doesnt let me go any higher!!!!!

Are you detonating? Are you blowing out the spark?

New rods if you dont have them already...and you should be fine at around .028 gap or so, you lucky bastage, must be nice having 98 octane fuel.

OMFG, ya sonuva, I thought I was gonna have nearly as much power as you, obvoiusly I wont with only 23psi...

I guess I need a bigger turbo...:doah:

lol, remember its not all about boost level. My old setup made 520hp at 30lbs. My current setup makes that much at 18lbs.
Och,

Where are the pictures? I've seen some videos, but they were on lower boost.

I posted up pics a while back, when I put the new setup together. I still have not been to the track :/
ochizon, with a gap like that maybe you would like opening them up a bit by using an HKS DLI.
