you guys joke, but in my tC we went to ACE Hardware and bought this tool that cuts thread. we screwed it on and wrenched it down. got it as low as it would go without puttin the shift knob inside the box. after we got the tool off we took a sawz all to it and cleaned up the cut.kyle said:Hack saw and a welder :waytogo:
I wasn't joking at all. Its not a bad solution, especially for the X since there are only two SS kits on the market and neither shorten the shifter at all.gon2corea said:you guys joke, but in my tC we went to ACE Hardware and bought this tool that cuts thread. we screwed it on and wrenched it down. got it as low as it would go without puttin the shift knob inside the box. after we got the tool off we took a sawz all to it and cleaned up the cut.
it is now the shorest SS in any tC and maybe in any car. its like 2 inches in total travel. the shift knob sits right outside the top of the shift box.
i did it to the TWM SS Stage 2. then i hacked another 2 inches off that. works great.kyle said:I wasn't joking at all. Its not a bad solution, especially for the X since there are only two SS kits on the market and neither shorten the shifter at all.
I put a SS kit in my tC, it dropped the stick 2.5" I believe. Its perfect, IMO.
Looks good! I have the TWM Stage 2. I coudln't remember the brand off the top of my head and I was too lazy to look it up. Also have the Abrams shift knob.gon2corea said:i did it to the TWM SS Stage 2. then i hacked another 2 inches off that. works great.
as for the guy above me. threading has other advantages. like the knob no going through the back window when you slam it into 2nd or 4th. it happens. pluse you have "better" quality knobs to choose from. i have this one and want to put it in the X when i get it. they also have some other nice knobs like the Abrams and the Type R

I wish I had access to a welder....xrunjon06 said:Think I'm going with the sawsall & weld plan .Robber gave me the straight gouge on the boot removal might go more than a inch maybe 1.5". I have a lonza knob & with the TRD short shift kit about a 1/2" of shifter sticks out of the boot to the bottom of the knob. "I will rectify this situation! :waytogo:
You do!XRobber said:I wish I had access to a welder....
Thats exactly what I did on my 86 toyota 4 speed. My shift knob had a plastic sleeve that just slid over the gear shift handle and had 1 or 2 small allen screws to tight the actual knob down on it. Then a trim ring hid the screws.dakinisbatman said:just cut it, then get a good shift knob that has set screws. (doesnt thread on) no threads needed you just wont be able to put stocker on.
i just painted it. although i highly recomend having a pro do it for $150. its well worth it.kyle said:Looks good! I have the TWM Stage 2. I coudln't remember the brand off the top of my head and I was too lazy to look it up. Also have the Abrams shift knob.
What kinda dash is that? It looks pretty cool. Is it just stock pieces painted or what? I'd like to do something like that, but I'm done modding my tC.
