Shifter Question

Yeah I freaked out yesterday my shifter felt like a wet noodle. So today I took everything apart I thought something had come loose on my underdog short shift kit that I put in like 3 years ago. I was surprised when I got down to it. Seems its all in the shifter handle. The rubber shock stuff in the black handle has turned to mush. Any replacement suggestion?

I'm not 100% sure what's gone soft ... Can you post a photo?
is it the rubber insulation that dampens vibration? go to a junk yard, taco shifters are pretty easy to come by.

I believe that is exactly what is wrong.
Isnt there any sporty shifters out there??
Just drill some holes in it and fill that biotch with some epoxy. Let it harden up and it will feel like new:waytogo:
funny you should say that I was thinking of drilling two holes in the lower part of the shifter tube and pumping it full of this marine silicon stuff that I have. Stuff takes some time to cure though so I might have to pick a time that I wouldn't drive for a good 24hrs
I rebuild these. I also cut them down a bit. I can cut them down 1 1/2" or 2 1/2".

They cost $120 exchange. This includes a new tip bushing and shipping to the lower 48 states.

You can PM Balboa, he has one.

A B&M is no longer made for out trucks.
Hahaaa. I got the last one. Hehe. :brickknoc
Whats the part # maybe I can find one on Ebay or something??
That's where I got mine. Tell ya what get coupes modded shifter and you'll be happier. Although th B&M is razor sharp it's noisy and still fairly tall. Almost as tall as factory. But if you want to wait till we do the T56 swap I'll sell ya mine. But that's months out.
I had a B&M and I prefer the one I mod.

It is reasonable quiet, nice positive feel and I can make it 1 1/2 shorter or 2 1/2" shorter. This works well with a URD or NST SS kit.

I can do the same mod to a TRD SS.
Thanks for all of the feed back. Short term I drilled a hole in the black outer case of the shifter and pumped it full of silicone. Big difference and cheap.

I'm gonna take mine out this weekend and do the same thing.

I just can't send mine to coupe to have him mod it, it's my only car so that option will NOT work:brickknoc Wish I could but not happening unless someone local has one I can borrow.

Anyway, the sloppyness will be gone:waytogo:
