sorry for all the questions guys, but im just trying to find the right setup for me.

so which is safer to handle weight? which is more reliable? having a full pack of leaves which are dearched, or pulling out the middle leaf leaving the first leaf and overload? has n e one broken their leaf springs before?

Breaking a leaf spring is like a woman with good looks who cooks n cleans!

i have heard of people breaking leaves running bags with a mono-leaf (ie. middle leaf AND overload leaf gone) but never from pulling the middle leaf and leaving the overload...the overload should provide more than enough support to prevent the leaf bending down to the point of snapping...i know that jason (slamdtaco) hauled an ~700-800 lb bike from boynton to tampa (and back) about 3hrs each way or so...with the middle leaf pulled with no problems, and let me just add that there are some really nasty pieces of highway between those

not b.s.ing or anything, but my wife is super fine and loves to cook. i help out with the cleaning, but it's all good for what i get in return:waytogo:

oh and on the leaf spring subject, just try taking the middle leaf out and ride around for a while. if you don't like it you can always put it back together and get them de-arched. it is free and you may like it, and it might work for what you need.:waytogo:
For a compiled set of comments on ride quality with the middle leaf removed, check this March 2005 thread:

actually, if i were to take off the middle leaf, my friend suggested grinding off the thing that holds the leaves together cus its fast and easy. but yea, im still not set so i'll take ur advice in consideration. thanks.
