S-Runner: Why's It Unknown? 2002 vs. 2001 Model?

What's up with the S-Runner? I "discovered" it on Toyota's web sight but other than that, it seems to get no support. It appears to me to be the ideal truck for my needs but the local (Sacramento, California) dealers either have never heard of it, or tell me that it is no longer in production. I've located one 50 miles out of town that I liked (except for the options the dealer had loaded on it!) but I felt it was overpriced.
My question: What is the forums feel for this vehicle? Are there any inherent problems with the 2002 model? Options to avoid? Is the 6 banger as reliable as the 1990 four cyl. that I've put 140000 miles on? Any insight that anyone might have would be very much appreciated. Thanks ...

Re: S-Runner

I got my V6 from Florin Road Toyota in Sacramento. I absolutely love it. Of course, I had them install the supercharger at the same time. Have you tried calling them? Brian Rea there bent over backwards to locate my truck and get it to Sac. This, was of course, right before I had heard of the S Runner. I still love it!

Re: S-Runner

Thanks for the input on the S-runner! Are there any differences between the 2001 and the 2002 models? This doesn't appear to be the case but the data on this truck is skimpy at best. Would there be a any drawbacks to acquiring a new 2001 model in what will soon be 2002 other than the fact that the vehicle is instantly a year old? Again, thanks for the advice on this, nobody knows this kind of information better than an owner!
Re: S-Runner

only difference I heard of, is that the '02 is supposed to have body color matched "Tacoma" badges on the doors (not the chrome), and a driver's side pillar handle (?) like the passenger side. I haven't yet seen an '02, so I can't verify.

I very much appreciate the time and the advice you and the "Forum" have given me.

Decisions, decisions!

I'll be in touch ...
Re: S-Runner

I have read that the S-Runner has 3.15 axle not the 3.58 ratio the 2.4L has. would it be quicker if it had the 3.58 axle?

HT:

If only they'd asked me first, I'd have told 'em we'd rather have a guage pod (empty even!) mounted on the A pillar instead of a do-nothin' dum-a** handle.

I would complain, but at least they did listen to me when I told 'em we wanted the S-Runner in the first place. Considering the shares of Toy I own, I'm surprised they even listened then.

Re: S-Runner

Yes, it would be quicker with a 3.58, but trust me.. The S will destroy a 2.4/2.7 truck. I've run a VERY traction limited 15.5sec @89mph... I absolutely could NOT hook up out of the hole, and spun going into second gear.

My only mods are a hole in the airbox and a Flowmaster muffler. Drive a S-Runner and you'll see.

And no, I don't have the SC.
Re: S-Runner

You should try taking it a little easier out of the blocks. I bet you would run a better time than the 15.5. I do feel your pain though. It's hard to grab with a truck that has so much HP and torque!
Re: S-Runner

You lose. Or at least be a good race. My best time has been a 15.29sec. Most runs are a 15.5.
Re: S-Runner

And my best is also a 15.2. Not an Srunner, but v6 5 spd. Hopefully, I will be going to the track in a few weeks to run again. I'm hoping for a 14.9 at least.
Re: S-Runner

I have only a 2.4L 4cly. will be in the 14's soon. with the add of a 2.7L and turbo.
