I have a 1998 Tacoma and I was talking with a guy at a gathering about the snow an how my truck handled in the snow AWESOME, anyway he said there was a recall on some of the late model toyota's dealing with bad frame or something allong that line. Do you guys know anything about it or has this happened to someone. Supposedly they buy back your vehicle above face value. Hard to believe but figured someone here would know.

SEARCH! Its been covered many times. :D Yes they are buying back 95-00 Tacomas if the frame fails their inspection. If it fails they give you 1.5x the blue book value in excellent retail condition. I just went though it with mine and I got $8400 for my 97 with 254k miles. I believe they are still replacing frames for the 01-04 trucks that are rusted.
They bought my 98 4 x 4 reg cab base with 285k. for 8700

yeah u can take it in to a dealer. And if it fails they give u 1.5x blue book value
can i make mine fail?

swap in a rusty frame:evil:
hmmm...i think itd cost me more than the check id get, so are they replacing just the frames or buying back trucks? i have 95 and have already had it checked but i dont know how much i trust them, i might take it to another dealer for a second check up.
You have 15 years from the original date of purchase to use the frame warranty.
If you got your 95 before today it's already expired.
What about all the extra items and mods, do you think you can remove those items, or will they they only take it as is. I bought the truck in 03, and can you take the money and still keep the truck. I have put so much into this thing it would suck to have to start all over.

I taking it in this weekend.
No you can't get money and keep the truck. It's either give up the truck and get money or sign a waiver and keep the failed truck with no money. If it fails they won't let you take it home to remove stuff so do all that before you bring it in.

Is your frame all that bad? All it takes to fail is making holes in the frame with a ball pean hammer.

That is not true, they have no control of that truck until you sign the title and take the check.

You can take all of your after market items off/out of the truck. If you know it will fail start taking your items off now. I knew mine would fail but I took it in too early and I didnt get a chance to take a good bit of things off that I wanted to keep.
Check out this TTORA thread. I dont suggest you go as far as this guy did, but it gives you an idea of how much you can take off.

You can but it wont do you any good. You're out of warranty, its only good for 15 years.
It's 15 years from the purchase date. The 95 model wasn't available until the second half of 95 right? So technically none would expire until half way through 2010.

Good point. I dont remember if its the manufacturing date or the purchase date.

All the key documentation on the 1995.5 - 2000 frame campaign (which started in spring 2008) can be found in this sticky thread in Exterior:
