well im no where near an expert in this area but i would think u would un bolt ur shocks ...jack up the truck up and see how far the axel droops and measure from bottom to top mount

well i know i cant use them to full droop from stock mounts but what i am asking is how long can i have the shocks without them bottoming out all the time. does that make sense? haha

haha well thanks for tryin. does anybody understand what im askin?
I understand what your referring too, but don't know much about off-road shocks and stuff to fully help you.
8.5in will bottom you out with more than 90% flex... if that makes sense.
so i could run 2.5x8 foxes out of a stock setup and not bottom out at flex?
forgive me. I might have had a different definition for bottoming out. But I'm running 5150s with 8.5in of travel and have the problem of the leaf springs being able to flex longer that the shocks. Not by much at all tho. When i installed the leaf pack my axel dropped just as far as the shocks were fully extended. It wasn't till i beefed up my wheels did the leafs drop just a tab bit further than the shocks. But even then it's only one shock that does it.

With that, i guess what's trying to be said is that the fox shock you need needs to have more than 8.5in of travel. :)
what height are the j59's?

for a 1.5 - 2.5 lift i say a 8.5" would be minimum. the 8" would be too short on the extension, you would be at full droop/extension/flex ony to be limited by the shock which is bad. Too long of a shock and on your compressed/full stuff into the wheel well and your gonna bust a shock mount as well. this is where you have to raise your bumpstop to the same amount of lift you have.

the best way to determine the exact length is to take off the shocks and go flex each side and take the compression and extended measurements from the shock mount centerlines.
i had to read the whole thing again.

if your only worried about compression stroke at full stuff bottoming out and not worried about the extension bottoming out then , yes you could run it. it would be a good idea to raise your bumpstops to prevent this as well.

found it......

im running the J59s on steroids and am running a 12" stroke shock in there without issues...

those Kings you are looking at will work great... 23" extended is just right..

FYI, that guy is now asking for $320 for that pair of 8s...

offer him $300 and you will likely get them, but act fast...

thats what i like to hear haha. so would i need to do anything else to run these such as extend my bumps or just bolt in and they are ready. also i would need them revalved most likely correct? thanks
you should be ok... my shocks are 16" collapsed and im not having any bottom out issues
