Re: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 + 2 15\" L7 ???

I was told that i might blow the speakers by under powering them. the tantrum pushes bout max of 1464 watts, and i have read that its not stable at 1ohm... anyone have any opinions??? thoughts? comments? anyone else have a tantrum and think it pushes more then 1400+?? is there a setup i can do to be able to connect these two subs to this one amp?

That amp puts out the same amount of power at 4 ohms and 2 ohm load.So wire up the l7's at a 4 ohm load and you will be ok.Distortion is what destroys a speaker not the power.Heck hook up two of the Tantrum 1200.1

Re: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 + 2 15\" L7 ???

if over 700 watts to the 15 L7 is underpowering them then I don't know what to tell you. Yeah they can take like1000+ but that doesn't mean you have to have it. just don't run like 100 watts to them...lol. I thought the amp you are talking about ran 1400+ at 4 ohm mono right? so that would mean you would want two 4 ohm subs wired in series to give 8 ohm and bridged at the amp to give 4 ohms - i think

ahh yes thank you for clearing that up for me (on how to wire them) but why not at 2 ohms??

Heres the birthsheet of my amp (to answer your first question) it shows max of "1405.89 WMRS" at 4 Ohm

That is what I was saying to deathwish. He wants more bass then now and is pushing the sub with the 1200 watt amp with a tiny box. And wants more sound. So if he is gonna run both 15's with that one amp it will underpower them and he will try to push them with way too low of power and blow them. Due to distortion of course. I told him to just buy another 1200.1 amp and run each one to each amp with a larger box. Anyone agree?? He said he has 2 cubic foot box....I would say go closer to a 3.5- 4 cubic foot box. they recomend 1-5.6 cubic feet sealed box per sub...

I kno hooker but i aint bling bling'in right now lol... I will get another amp later down the road when I have more money i was just wondering if i could set this crap up as is for now though and maybe still be satisfied with my system and not have the extra sub sitting there
The only reason i have a 2 cubic foot box is cuz i was trying to keep it small but with a nice boom so i can still have room in my back bench but as it is im rippin the back bench out, no more passengers so the larger sealed boxes for the subs are coming soon

hell rip out the seat and make the box your new seat. Leave the seat bels in tact and build the box with the subs being protected and let people still sit on top of it. I have both seen it done and done this. Yeah it isn't as comfortable, but tell them to get out if they don't like with vibrations......i'm sure the chicas won't mind. hahaha

Re: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 + 2 15\" L7 ???

Good Idea
but the sub is too big in depth so yea their heads would be hitting the roof
I think I have tried to think of plenty of things especially that one but i am just goin to have to say "F Passengers" and make the back just for the subs and no ones else and not worry bout whos goin to ride back there cuz no one is

Why 4 ohms and not 2ohm for the subs?

Re: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 + 2 15\" L7 ???

WELL IF the amp is pushing the same watts at 2 ohm then run 2 ohm DVC subs the same way as the 4 ohm (in series) and you will achieve the 2 ohm load to the amp
What i was really asking is which one do you recommend and why? Would 4 ohm be better?

no there is not a difference in the sub, its just the wiring capabilities. You can get different ohms with a 2 or 4 ohm sub

A single 2ohm sub can be wired into 4 ohms or 1 ohm load
A single 4 ohm sub can be wired into 8 ohm or 2 ohms load

It is the same subs regardless of ohm

under powering a 15" l7 with a 1200.1 PG hell no you could run 4 l7 15's off that one amp and you still wont be under powering them, you will be fine with one of those amps and 2 15" L7's just get the right ohmage for subs. Let us know how it turns out.

You said... "two 4 ohm subs wired in series to give 8 ohm and bridged at the amp to give 4 ohms" why not two 4 ohm subs wired to give at the amp at 2 ohms? If i were to do that wouldnt i be able to push more out of the amp?

aRE you on crack??? The rms of each sub is 1000 watts. He wants to get it to hit harder. Run them and it will sound like poopoo....

Re: Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 + 2 15\" L7 ???

you said that running the amp at 2 ohms produces the same watts as ohm. you would typically not be pushing the as hard at 4 ohms as you woulf at 2 ohms. The lower the ohm the harder your amp has to work and the hotter it will get which is what kills most amps. Plus yuou could not get two 4 ohm subs down to 2 ohms.....no way to do it that I am aware of unless you go into some trick wiring that I am not aware of.......

OOOHHHH now i see, I thought there was a difference in sound quality though as well when you changed the ohm number?? I currently have my amp pushing 1 15 at 2 ohm. So i guess 4 ohm it is when i go to wire the 2 15s together to the amp. Thnx

whoa hell no you did not just say that do you even know what RMS is??? he asked if he would be underpowering those 2 subs with that amp and the answer is and will stay to be no. underpowering a L7 15" sub would be like 100 watts RMS and less you can run a 15" L7 with 200 watts RMS and it will work correctly for years to come. you can argue this all you like and if needs be I will get kicker personally in this chat to prove you wrong how will i do that well first of all Im sponsored by them in DB Drag and USAC sencond i used to work for stillwater designs and have a crap loads of experiance there and in audio. and second RMS Does not mean the lowest power it can take LOL thats just supid yes STUPID!!!!! peak and RMS are totally different ratios. RMS is what it can hold 24-7 where peak is what it can take for sudden bumps to say it very lightly.. So fred lol learn a lil about car audio and then speak. dont try to prove someone wrong when they have years more experiance than you do and prob will ever...
