Questions on LSD and Lockers 2010 Tacoma

So I just traded in my 04 Prerunner for a 2010 4X4 SR5 Tacoma Base Model. I bought the base because I plan on changing most of the things from the TRD packages anyway. I got it a week ago today, got a magnaflow muffler and 2.5in cat-back exhaust done saturday. My question is, I have read about LSDs and Lockers, but I still cant figure out... what is the difference? I know my Prerunner had a rear locking differential, does my 4X4? This is my first 4x4. Should I invest in one or the other if it doesnt come already on? What does my traction control do as far as off-road? I have read my manual, but couldnt find specific answers, any info or advice would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

Regular Cab 4-cylinder? No - you don't have the locking differential.

The traction control's built-in "Auto LSD" feature jukes the brakes to simulate the behavior of a limited-slip differential.
Sorry, D-Cab V6 4.0L.
OK, then ... Same answers - no TRD Off Road Package = no locking differential.
Locker = Off-road

LSD = Street driving

Ok, so basically even though I have 4x4, if i get stuck in snow or mud I'm screwed? I'm not planning on doing any rock crawling or anything... What is a price range for lockers?
Ok, so after some looking around, I found out I have Auto LSD. Is this sufficient to free myself from mud/ snow?
if you have 4x4 you are good. you only want 4x4 and lockers if you really want to go offroading.

your 2010 is going to have something called AUTO-LSD... =LAME! it is an ABS based 'lsd', basically traction control. if you wans something real for offroad, go pre08 taco

An LSD is a very nice thing to have for street driving. Particularly on cornnering and taking off. Unfortunately you drive 3000lbs+ vehicle in which street racing isn't exactly valid. :) I almost want to go ahead and say that an LSD would NOT be good for off-roading. Altho what you have is fine.

A Locker is something you wouldn't need necessarily unless you plan to turn your truck into an expedition rig and plan to do some gnarly crawling. It would help you in the desert just as well but you're good enough with 4x4. A locker is an all around handy thing to have IMO.
Ok, well, the rocks here in Alabama where I'm stationed are crumbly and made of clay, so no rock climbing. I'm also quite a ways away from the desert. When I go back home to Kentucky I might find some snow to romp around in.
wouldnt trade my locker for the world. its got me out of a bind plenty of times! and you can def find some rocks here in AL. just gotta know where to look!

not sure how many trails would be suitable for our trucks but i know it would be a good time to go ride around and watch people tear some stuff up! I have personally never been but my cousin has been trying to take me forever. they have a blast.

Most everything else is just local dirt roads. if your lucky you might find some good hills on the side. mostly just mud on one side or the other, which really is a waste of time to me..
