Get a spot weld drill bit and start drilling. I dont know how different the Taco and Runner cores are but when I did my Runner I just drilled all the spot welds out and it eventually fell off. Dont drill all the way through cause you need to keep the metal behind the fenders to weld the new core to. I know they sell a spot weld drill bit type deal but I dont know who carries it.
coo... wow 22 something views and 1 post:cry: anyone wana help me and have tools to do it:shrug:
i just put a new core support on my truck and yeah you need a spot weld remover. and a welder to weld back in to place where did you get the core support? id say try and compare it to a 4runner before you start or you'll run into missing holes or extra brackets that you'll need when piecing it back together

drill out the old spot welds, if you don't have the remover bit, a regular drill bit will work. you will have to place the a/c dryer behind the headlight, but you have to be real careful you don't kink the a/c line. you will have to make sure you remove the refrigerant from the a/c prior to removing the core, some a/c stuff has to be removed to get the core out/in.

and don't worry if you don't have access to a welder, i bolted my core support instead of welding it.

here's the only pics i got of my swap

Its easy! Just start drilling those spot welds until the thing falls off. Seriously though, its not a big deal, just do what Nancy said, compare the two before you start drilling.

i still dont trust myself haha
Plz don't bolt you're core support on lol that horrible.

If you decide to go through with it. Drill it out as stated, fit the new one one. And hold it in place with vice grips. Then make sure its square use a tram gauge. Measure an "x" and that should tell you if its centered or not.

After its centered, tram it again to be sure.

Then start putting sheet metal screws to hold it in place, this will let you take the vice grips off.

Now you will want to essentially build the front end, hang the fenders, hood latch (and cable:doah:) headlamps, bumper, grille and hood. Make sure everything fits and all the gaps are good, You will more then likely have to make a few adjustments here and there. But make sure its held down nicely with screws before you take it apart again.

Weld it up with plug welds, preferably grind them down and make them look nice. Don't forget to put some sort of rust protection on the back side of all the welds, paint it and put it back together.:waytogo:
and why exactly is that horrible? just because it's not welded, doesn't mean it's not as good as if it were.
It's pretty thin material. There isn't a whole lot for a screw to hold onto. I remember when I removed mine it was difficult because there were so many spot welds. Only a couple/few bolts.
