Monroe Load Adjusting Shocks

So Im not sure if anyone else has encountered this problem but with my 3/3 set up I am constantly hitting my chassis even over small bumps due to our terribly soft rear suspension, but i think i found a solution. I found some monroe load adjusting shocks that are only an inch longer both compressed and extended for a 83 toyota pickup. But they bolt right up and the best part is a set of two is 80 bucks from advance auto parts. Will be putting them on on thursday so ill let you guys know if they work.

Img is for representational purposes only, the ones i purchased have the loop style fitting on each end :)

nice. I want to see the result of this! Im going to be carrying quite a load for 2500miles in a few months.
These shocks are amazing, I just put them on and I used to rub fender and make axle/chassis contact everywhere. The rear end is so nice and stiff now it rides like my roommates 350z. no rubbing or anything, I almost dare to say i dont even need a sway bar anymore it handles so well. Be prepared however, it will raise the rear of the truck about an inch. I will post again in a few weeks to see if it settles back down. Either way it was worth every penny, for about 40 bucks a shock I cant complain. Oh and it looks sick in there...

BTW part number for those interested is

Monroe LoadAdjusting Shocks; part number 58486
Good info man! I know mjbtaco experimanted with something similar. This should help allot of people out there who want to be in the 3" - 4" range w/o notch. Thanks for the part #'s. How do they adjust? :waytogo:

There doesn't seem to be any adjust ability like with the QA-1... Essentially it's a Monroe sensatrac shock with what appears to be a progressive rate helper spring which could account for the "load adjusting" aspect the name implies... According to their website, it's good for leveling 1200# of cargo...

here

Don't mean to thread jack OP, :)

Could something similar be fashioned with a double eyelet QA-1 threaded shock body with a custom spring hat? Or possibly mounting up a single adjustable shock body like so for adjustability:

exactly its non adjustable, its designed to help increase payload capacity. but i can tell you my truck handles amazing wiht them on there. im about to purchase a set for the front too. part number 58263, came off of a 70-83 camaro...sound familiar qa1 guys? ill let you know how the front works out, but if it does, then that means you can basically have a cheap but great working set of "coilovers" for around 120 for all four. Good way to save up for the qa1s and wait for Brian to finish the fourlink...:waytogo:
Btw heres the stats on the front shocks, 58263.

Stock Shock Lengths
Top Mount S42 (rancho)
Bottom Mount XP5 (rancho)
Compressed 9.125
Extended 14.375

Monroe 58263
Top Mount S4(monroe)
Bottom Mount XP4(monroe)
Compressed 9.13
Extended 13.75

I believe the bottom mount of the monroe to be a tad narrower than factory, however I dont believe it to be a problem, Will find out when I get around to putting them on :)

These are nothing new, I've seen buddies run them on there lowered full size chevys and fords to haul motorcycles, etc

never seen it on a mini truck, particularly a toyota..

actually I take that back..I've seen them on a ol datsun 521 pickup.

sweet picture and details, great idea:waytogo:
got a side shot of the truck with them on?

i wonder if you can haul 1000 lbs with a 4" rear drop?

On the Fenders

i doubt those things would hold 1200lbs..

those springs look real skinny and small..

**** I had like 100lbs of wood in my truck today on a 5" drop and it was like a pinky thickness from the tire...any kind of bump = new groove in my tread pattern:evil:
got the fronts on today, they fit fine, but you have to notch open the holes on the bottom shock mount and put washers over the factory bolts to hold it on. works great tho, truck is hella stiff now.
Let's see some pictures of the front setup if you can.
still rides great, have yet to bottom out again, front softened up a little bit but the rear remains stiff. id still say the front is a great cheap alternative to qa1's until one can afford them. Part of the problem might be my front springs are shot too :(. And Ill post front pics as soon as i get under it again, I took pics but forgot to save them last time

And guy above beefed...with the 01 sr... you live in chesapeake and you havent talked to me yet....tsk tsk tsk.:doah:
