Some have said magnaflow sounds pretty good, but I was on their site, and their system for the tacoma is over $400. I wanted to buy just the muffler from the site, and have the local shop install it. For you guys running the magnaflow system, What size muffler is it so I can just purchase the muffler from magnaflow?

Magnaflow is what I have and I am very pleased with the sound of it, there is a picture on my gallery how i have it coming out the back. Definitely jut by the muffler, I found a shop to put mine on for $30.

I'd buy the muffler from the shop and have them install it. Do you bring your own food to someone else's barbecue?

Just ask them for the biggest one they got and have 'em put in a turndown. It'll be deep, and you'll hear it in the cab.

EDIT: Mine ran $140 installed with tax, but I went with a reputable shop I'd done business with before. I could've found it cheaper, no doubt.

get a 40 series... the universal one (that i have) is not all that loud, gibson beats the crap out of the loudness, at 2 grand it sounds sick as hell, its real deep and its that agressive kind of cruising that i like alot. if your up for a good deep LOUD noise go with the 40 series, if you want a deep sound that doesnt disturb to much peace, go with the universal one. You will need a pipe if you install it, the muffler is about 6 or so inches shorter then the stock one, it has been a while since i have had a stock muffler and seen the two next to eachother, but from what i rember it was a good 6 inches or so. I just bought mine off the muffler shop, look at the magnaflow website and see a local dealer near you, then just go there. Or some people ebay it. have fun, pm me if youhave questions.

i got a universal one. i paid $100 which included installation and new piping from the muffler back. and the pipe is 2-1/2 inch. i like the way it sounds. has a nice popping sound at high revs! i set off alrams left and right with this thing.

When they did my cat back, we tried a Dynomax, a 50 series Flowmaster, a smaller Magnaflow, and the large Magnaflow. The Dynomax turbo muffler sounded real rice. The Flowmaster and the small Magnaflow were too loud and resonated in the cab too much. The larger Magnaflow (#12286) sounded the best to me. We found the tip makes a difference in sound as well.

I've got a 5X8 oval Magnaflow XL stainless on mine, and i kept the stock tail pipe, I ran it a day or tow without it, man it was way to loud in the cab. got mine for right at about $60 ($75 after shipping) love it now, it sounds great, good tone , and plenty of volume but not too much.

Has anyone else noticed with their magnaflow if the volume changed after the truck warmed up and some heat built up in the muffler. it seemes like after i get the truck warmed up and drive for 10 min. or so that the exaust gets louder. this isn't really a complaint, more just somthing i noticed.

Okay, I need Exhaust and so does my Dad. I don't care about sound as much as he does but I don't want to hear it all the time. Here's my Question; Who here knows best HP gain with Little noise? I've got an 01' v6 and he's got an 03' v6. Thanks in advance for the help.

Is there any real differences between the oval and round and whatever that other one is? I was just thinking about getting the oval stock sized openings..

bump? Is there a certain length muffler to go with the stock piping? Does it matter if it's offset or centerset or whateverset?

Thanks in advance!
