Looking for some advise

Hey everyone. I just bought a 2004 Tacoma Xtracab PreRunner about a year ago. I really love the truck, but it's not a 4x4, only a 4x2. Although, I do love the differential locking system on it...anyways, I would really love to raise this truck about 2 or 3 inches and put some nice tires on it. Tires I'm looking for is not too vicious, something I can drive on the road without eating away the tread, but also some kind of tires that give the truck a more "off-road" look.

I've never raised a truck before, and I've never paid for mud tires before, so I'm not sure what price range I'm looking at here....I've got about a grand I can play with..

ANY IDEAS? GUIDANCE? What should I go for right now?

I'd appreciate any input. Thx

(2) The most effective thing to do would be to explore the 4WD / PreRunner Suspension and Wheels / Tires sections to learn how others have dealt with these issues, then post there about your specific questions.
