Just getting started

I now own my 05 Tacoma 4.0L Prerunner accesscab and I am ready to start modifying. I have been looking around for weeks going through reviews and I just found this site. I rather get input from guys that value their truck as I do. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should start or what parts seem to work better than others? Way back in 97' while in high school I worked on my 88 VW GTI and really haven't been up to date with modifying trucks. I don't plan on a lot of off roading, I have my quads and bike for that. I would just like to hear some RAW power and make it go fast. Thanks guys for any helpful tips!

(1) Welcome to CT! :waytogo:

(2) First thing that comes to mind is a supercharger ... Is that the kind of setup you're looking to have?
The engine only has 45K on it so I would like to eventually work up to it, i don't have $3500 to spend right now so is their something you could recommend like intake or exhaust to get my feet wet?
OK - then I'd suggest starting by doing some homework in the Performance section on 2005+ intake options and experiences ...
Welcome! Yeah, straight-up power would be a supercharger. I'd say hit up http://www.urdusa.com. Lots of goodies there:waytogo:
I have been looking at intakes for a while now, there are so many new companies out there trying to make a name for themselves by offering similar products to AEM and K&N. I had K&N before and liked it. Have you heard to anyone getting better results with other companies or other models that the 63 series from K&N? Is the TRD intake the best for this truck?
I'm going to point at URD again. The company has it's own intake design that I think people said worked very well. If you aren't afraid to do a little cutting in the engine bay, check it out.

Where in new england are you from? I lived in mass, born in NH went to Pembroke Academy and then USM in maine.
Just saw the Intake you suggested, this is the only one i have seen that comes out infront of the radiator, Do you personally have this on your Taco? Do you think a rain guard is needed? I live in florida now, it rains here pretty good.
I think i am going to go ahead and order the intake listed above by urdusa.com. Awesome ratings and makes the most sense to induct cold air.
Now I just need to find an exhaust thats not too expensive. I want this to be a work in progress, i love working on my vehicles and don't have the funds to buy everything i need at once unfortunately.
look into the X1. its a standalone that will be a good investment IF you decide to supercharge later..i think it actually gives you over 20 hp to the wheels? and it has a bunch of safety features...
X1? I can't find it, who makes it?
How come no one cool lives in Sarasota, everyone I meet are dinks. Thank you to all of you for your help, I will be sure to post pics as progress is made! Take care!

P.s. My grandparents live in Spring Hill, is it nice up there? I have only seen old people golf. (they live in a golfing community)

I have the 2TR-FE, so no :) As for the rain guard, it couldn't hurt, I guess.

X1 is here: http://www.urdusa.com/product_info....=1260518754&osCsid=f9u3kllo1qrsbkioek94mu40a5
There are a few CTr's down that way, try looking here http://www.customtacos.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=36 in the SouthEast Region.

I would do the rainguard in FL. You're not going to see big number gains with intake & exhaust, only subtle changes other than noise. If you're thinking about ECU enhancement, I would definately look at URD's options.

Gagdet (who runs URD) is kinda like a mad scientist (sorry Gagdet) who comes up with a lot of good products for us Taco-lovers..
