head gasket?

Any diesel guys on here? if so i have a question. My pappys truck is a 99 7.3 powerstroke. We put a gallon of anti-freeze in it a few weeks ago, checked it today...empty. it leaks very little around the oil filter, but definatly not enough to drain it in a few weeks. No leaks any where else. no coolant in the oil and no white smoke out of the exhaust, no idea where its going.

Does this sound like a head gasket issue to anyone?

Thanks, Dane

Check the oil cooler tube assy, the O rings fail and leak when under pressure when warm.

Im not a diesel mech but I would start by borrowing a pressure tester and see if it holds pressure and then start from there

A lot of times the leak is internal and wont be seen leaking, but it is a good think to check for external leaks as well. I was saying to check the oil cooler because these were a common problem.

Is the oil mixing with coolant.

Also so you know, those motors tend to cavitate the block due to the fact that they were made in Brazil and there is sand in the castings. I have had to R & R several motors because of this.

I worked as a Diesel tech for 5 years specifically on light duty trucks Ford, Dodge, and on occasion the old Chevy diesels (yuck)

6.9 and 7.3 Fords were the majority of our work.
no there is no coolant in the oil at all
Is it an Automatic?

If so it could be the tranny cooler.

Check the ATF.
