Drain Plug Gasket Question. Yes I Did Seach.

Well I guess my truck got a little scared because of the tsunami sirens today and decided to leak some oil on the garage floor. I did change the oil last week so maybe I didnt snug down the drain plug enough. Crawled underneath and there was quite a bit of oil around the drain plug. I did have to tighten the drain plug a little more, hopefully that was the problem. Ive had the truck for 7 years and Ive never changed the drain plug gasket. If the leak comes back Ill go ahead and put a new gasket on and go from there. I did some research and found that the OEM gasket is PN# 90430-12031. Is this the metal crush type, or the fiber type. I really want to get the metal crush type. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks

I'm prettry sure it's a copper crush and should be replaced every oil change. Your local auto parts store should have the proper M12/.50" size drain plug gaskets. Three oil changes ago I bought a pack: two copper and one aluminum. I just used the aluminum on my recent oil change w/no probs.

Glad the Islands made it through okay too.
i've been reusing a nylon one with no issues. use it for maybe 4 or 5 changes. they should be changed out every time though

That where I got the part numbers from, I just want to know if those are made out of metal not the fiber material.

Not a fan of nylon or fiber gaskets. Seem 'em crack as they don't handle being torqued or engine heating/cooling cycles as good as copper or aluminum. I wouldn't chance re-using them more than one time.

STOCKTRD - Get the M12/.50" copper ones and you'll be fine.
make sure you torqued it enough. if you actually put a torque wrench on it youd be amazed how tight they spec it to be. also the stock gasket on my 2rz is the paper/fiber type. not a huge deal if you remember to change it everytime.

those are metal gaskets and they're OEM you can´t go wrong.
never changed mine and it hasnt leaked yet, i think your plug may have been loose.
The stock gaskets are aluminum with a coating, I have about 100 of em...:D

Ah, I guess that's why they look like fiber to some. I know Nissan uses copper from the factory (at least they used to). Honda/Acura's also use aluminum, helps prevent over-torqued and stripped drain plug threads.

So when is the drain plug gasket party? :D
99 has had a aluminum one in there long as I could remember..
(been changing the oil on that since I was like 13...like 2 years after we got it).

I don't think my father has ever done an oil change on that truck..lol.

and It's never been replaced..far as my knowledge:shrug:

just changed it back in like October..looked fine to me
I have a nylon one i think. I just tighten the bolt snug with a 14mm box end wrench. I don't own a torque wrench.
can i have one? :D

Sure, come and get it . If you really need one PM me and I can get your info again and send you one if you really need one, I will hook a brotha up.
I'm running the same bolt gasket thats been on my truck since I got it.. no issues..
