I have a 2.7L engine and I am considering Downey headers mainly because i discovered a crack in my exhaust manifold yesterday, so i need to decide on aftermarket or stock SOON! I have a 2wd and I know with Downey you have custom fab a downpipe. I was wondering if anyone had an comments on the performance end of Downey headers? And does anyone have any idea how much installation including might be?

Well, i'm assuming that the 2.7l has the same amount of space as the 2.4l as to where all the tech has to do is remove the intake out of the way then install the header. I shopped around for prices and the lowest i got was $160. Maybe you'll find it cheaper.

You have a 2.7 liter engine, but you're 2WD. Did you do an engine swap? I thought all 4x4's where 2.7's and all 2WD were 2.4's.

Anyway, I have the Downey on my 2.7 People say they suck and are hard to install. Well, I either got lucky or the other people are morons because I had NO problems installing mine. Everything lined up perfectly. Also, it made my 1/4 mile times faster by 2 tenths of a second.

yeah my truck is a oddball 4runner because it has the 2.7L engine. Most 4runners have the 3.4L 6cyl. Its much easier to find info about engine performance on here rather than a 4runner messageboard because all they talk about is 6cyl performance. I am planning to make my truck like a Tacoma PreRunner though. Its gonna be a 2wd with a rear locker and soon to have 4" lift with 33" or 35" tires. I havent decided on tire size.

i have 2.4 ... downey has impressed me..price and performandce wise in comparing with other header set ups....if yo order direct from downey you will experience less problems with gasket, bolts etc. showin up @ the same time.. install was extremely easy, all i ahs to do was drive it down the street to have end welded to my exaust....cost me only 50.oo for the weld and a few angry neighbors..

downey no onge sends the elbow @ the end o the header....on 2000 and later they found two different configs..with no relation to vin #. so i had muff shop use end off old exhaust and weld to end of downey header. so i cn still get around the smog nazi when i put a straight pipe on. just a matter o a fw bolts and i can switch back and forth from the pipe to cats.
