Well, my new baby has been trashed... Last night my car was parked on a street and there was a hit and run on it. The guy nailed my fuc#ing truck and ran.

The car that hit me was an 1985 Cadilac DeVille. However my taco did not go without a fight. The guy had to run cause he trashed his car as well so the cops have it... Here is a link to some pictures.

It just happened last night. I don't know the status if they caught him or not. Yes, I was hit in the rear then my truck hit another truck. In all there were about 4 cars who were involved in the whole thing.

Sorry to hear about your truck.

Man, he must've hit you pretty damn hard for you to nail the car in front of you that hard. Lucky no one else got hurt besides the dumbass.

He did not leave just his plate, he left his whole CAR

So yeah, they got his plate number and everything else under the sun... So now I just have to play the waiting game...

That sucks bro......at least they got his car and it shouldn't be too hard for them to get him. Insurance will take car of everything, and this accident clearly wasn't your fault (hell, you weren't even in the truck). Is your frame damaged? I would be amazed if it wasn't......you got some nasty damage to the front and back.

I do not know if the frame is damaged, I hope it is so I can get a new truck. The last thing I want right now is a brand new (refurbished) truck, you know what I mean? So hopefully it is totaled then I can just get another one...

My friend is dealing with the same thing with his Tundra right now.....he got hit from behind and his frame is bent, but the insurance company wants to try and fix it b/c the truck is worth so much $$$ and they don't want to pay him out for the cost of his vehicle (it is still valued at $28,000). If it only costs $15,000 to straighten the frame and fix all of the other damage, they will try to do that rather than total it and pay out $28,000- it's all about money and insurance companies try to pay out as little as possible. Here is a thread that I posted on it w/ pics of his truck (although yours does look worse): another one bites the dust

Update on the status. I have not heard anything about the guy who hit me however the body shop called today. He has inspected the outside of the truck and the frame. The frame is bent in the back, and he has not yet inspected the suspension or the engine...

The damage is upwards of 13,000 right now. I really do not want this truck back. Does anyone know of an effective way to fight to get the truck totalled??

It's a tough thing to do........the insurance company is not going to pay you $25,000 for a totalled vehicle if they can fix the truck for $15,000. Talk the body shop, tell them to look at any and everything.....a lot of times they find more things wrong as they start working on vehicles. To be honest with you- I would say you have about a 40% chance of them totalling your truck...........if you can argue that your truck will not be safe to drive if they fix it (you could probably do this if your frame is bent in more than one place) you may have a better chance of it being totalled. I know my dad's F-150 looked much worse than your truck (he got hit in the front) and the insurance company would not total it: there was frame damage, suspension damage, and they even put a new engine in it. If your truck wasn't so new it would have a much better chance of being totalled. I'm not trying to smash your hopes of it being totalled (trust me- I understand how you feel and really hope they do total it for you) but you should be prepared that there is a good chance that they will fix it. Remember....to insurance companies it is all about going the cheapest way so they save $$$$, it doesn't seem fair, but that's how they stay in business.

That makes a lot of sense. I knew kinda that was the response that I was going to get, I was just hoping for something else. If it is totalled that would be nice since I bought GAP Insurance.

UPDATE!!! My truck is officially totalled! I am so happy that I do not have to wait the time to get it fixed and I can just move on. Now I am going to open up a new can of worms.

I am going to get another taco, however I am debating insted of getting the 05 to go for an 04 or 03. What do you guys think? I liked the size of the 05 but I think it drinks too much gas. Also I am not getting a prerunner, I am going to get a 4x4. So, from what I have heard, the people from this board like the older models better for offroading for various reasons.

Do the 04 or 03's have a rear locker like the 05 does. Also, if it does not, am I better getting a 4x4 05 with the locker? Give me some pros and cons of lets say the 04 compaired to the 05.

Thanks!!!!

If you get the TRD offroad package on a 98-2004 Tacoma, it will come with a locking rear diff. The pro's and con's are pretty much summed up in the above post.
