Hey y'all kinda new here and hoping that im putting this in the right thread, but I was wondering if anyone had converted a 2004 prerunner with 2WD to 4WD and if so how did you do it. Please keep in mind that I have limited knowledge about this subject but am eager to learn. Thanks yall.

It can be done, but ...

Unless you're capable of doing the work yourself, it will probably turn into one of those projects that aren't worth it (except for bragging rights).

The hardest part is figuring out what parts you need, then locating and acquiring those parts.

Is your PreRunner a 3RZ or 5VZ? If it's a 3RZ you should probably forget the conversion idea (there's no such thing as a 3RZ DC 4X4).

I'd recommend you do some research on PreRunner-to-4WD conversions over at Tacoma Territory:

Trade or sell it so you can just get a 4x4 and call it done..

You'll nickel and dime the little 2wd 5 lugger to hell and back and it'll never be as good as a stock 4x4 is from the factory.

Unless you fab and have resources.

Chris:

Just for the record ... Don Apollo is looking to convert a 6-lug PreRunner, not a 5-lug mini.

The points you made still apply, though ...
