Hey y'all

I was toolin around town today and my ce light came on. Then the truck started idling like sh#t. Above idle ran fine. So I took it to the good people at Autozone and the guy read the code for me (for free) and said it was a lean code bank 1. He reset it, and now the truck idles fine, and no ce light (so far. just drove a few miles home) Any ideas? When it's cold the idle is kinda rough too. I was thinking something with the maf sensor, but i'm just guessing.

Well, I had the same problem, and I tried for about a month to narrow it down myself. Finally, I just went to toyota to have them tell me it was the MAF sensor, which also was my conclusion. Try cleaning the small wire inside with some carburator or brake cleaner. That is how they did it at Toyota.

I'll give that a try! thanks!

I use rubbing alcohol and a swab and clean it and it works perfect!
Thanks for the heads up guys. The thing I don't get is how could this thing get dirty so fast. I just put a new intake on about 1000 miles ago (injen) could the filter be oiled up too much like some of the k&n's?

Well I pulled out the sensor and cleaned it, but now instead of it idling like crap all the time, it just idles like crap some of the time. Maybe i need to clean it better. Do you just clean the little electrode thingys or do you have to get the posts too?

bump,

Well, the truck started running worse and worse...so I inspected the intake...and low and behold.....broken bolt from s/c to intake on the head. So I parked it and found not one broken bolt but two, and one missing. So outta 5 bolts that hold the s/c onto the head, I only had two holding it on!!! No wonder it was running like crap. Also the bolt that supports the bottom of the s/c busted off. My question is: Can I just use a tap and die to get the busted bolt out? Suggestions. BTw, these are the stock bolts and not the arp ones. I would recommend anyone running the 2.4 without the upgraded bolts to get em. I have some left over if y'all need some. Ok here's the pic:

go to your ;llocal hardware store and get a EZ out kit......liikes like a drill with reverse threads on the end......you drill a small hole in the center of the broken bolt and put the EZ out in a drill and drill it in reverse which will grab and pull the bolt out.....they work wonders good luck bro...

I lose a lot of ez-outs.. this last one I haven't lost...

Drill out the broken one, & drill slightly larger hole... get it super hot before using the ez-out (just don't accidentally touch it, damned that's painful), so all metals expand & "loosen up" a bit... works wonders on exhaust manifolds & plumbing also... start it & let it worm up , or torch on the SC (not so it glows.. just get it hot so it expands)

K, I'll try that. I just thought that if the bit broke off in the bolt I'd be hosed...but I'll get a bigger bit and try that. Stay tuned!

Use a variable-speed drill & go slow.. you may need to drill a series of smaller holes around the broken bit..
