can you use the parkinglight wires to power foglights?

i recently purchased a 98-02 4runner bumper and it has the factory h3 fog lights installed on it i am going to shave my corners so could extend the wires down to the bumper and this would have em come on as the parking lights. i also was wondering if i could put the power wire for the parking lights to a toggle switch and turn them off while the headlights were on and turn on while the headlights are off

Using seperate relays per side, you can use the parking light as your signal turn on. And use the running light power on as your signal turn off.
so the power that the factory uses to power the parking lights isnt enough to power the fogs what is a relay i dont do any electrical and i may just let em stay on while headlights r on
Using the factory wire to power additional lights will fry the factory relay. And the more I think about it you will need a dual relay setup where both get power on signals but one powers on the lights while the other powers off the lights. Like a dual setup on aftermarket door power door locks. And you know how to shave corners but don't know relays? Dude google up! Relays are switches, help with heat, so on and so forth.
ya lol i usually just dont touch electrical at all
Exactly like Phil said. you can get away with using a single relay if you stick to the stock 35w bulbs. but if youre gonna use 55w bulbs id use 2 relays
Yeah - you'll be needing to use one or more relays for 2 reasons:

(1) To keep from overloading your taillight circuit (which powers the stock front corners and your dash illumination as well ...)

(2) To get the sort of 'one set of lights at a time logic' you said you wanted in your first post.

Think of a relay as a remote control switch that is triggered by a signal (power) from circuit A and then activates power to the circuit B that the relay controls. You can use the old corner wire as the trigger to activate a separately-powered circuit for the fog lights.

Two 55 w bulbs are just 11 amps most relays are 35/45 amps. I ran 12 gauge wire and two 100w bulbs. That is about 16 amps. Ran that set up for about 2 years. No problems.

Relay is a must.
Use the park light wire to activate the relay
then main power from batter ( fused )
out put wire the t's of and goes to both fogs
the the ground

If u just want to stay on when ever the park lights are on. It will work perfect.
if your not sure find a friend that can wire, dont wanna fry something plus you will save some headaches
ya i had my friend help me we wired the fogs up with one relay from advanced and then split it to the two wires, also we hooked up a e-fan and a thermostat from advanced so it comes on right when the radiator gets to a certain temp, i will put pics up asap

Did you do them to work with just the parking lights or do you have it setup to turn off with the driving lights like you originally wanted?
I have my fog lights spliced into the power wire for my parking lights and it powers both no problems. No relays or any fancy stuff

Consider yourself lucky. The stock parking light circuit was not designed to handle to the extra load (amperage) of aux. lights.
hmmmm, i prob shoulda posted what i did a couple months ago considering i did the exact same thing, and used the signal wire for the relay from the taillight circuit.

naw they stay on with the driving lights but i like um just fine
