Ok guys, so since the northeast got hit with that last bad snow storm, I have had a pretty bad rattle in the rear of my truck and for the longest time now, I could not figure out what it was. So anyway, got underneath the truck again to day while at school and noticed that about 6 inches of one of the leafs was missing!

So I am a college student with not to much money. Whats the best way to go about fixing this? Does anyone have some they are looking to get rid of? I am in the NY / NJ area.

Dude... At the first hint of an odd noise most of us can be found under our trucks finding what it was... why didnt you have a look at it sooner... maybe this could have been prevented?

Good luck with that... at least you still have your truck :(
I can answer that question. As he had posted: The Northeast has been the victim of extreme snowfall, hurricane force winds and temperatures that prevent MOST people from working on anything not seriously broke. Up until this last week our temps have not been above 38 degrees. Up until this last week, we have had 30 inches of snow or more on the ground. So... Cut the fellow CT'zen some slack. With all the ice crap on the roads, noises and vibrations are a pretty common item around here.

To the original poster, check your yellow pages for a "spring rebuilder" We have one here in Lancaster PA that I used. They took apart the springs and rebuilt them even added a leaf to give my truck 2 1/2 inches lift before the shackle in the rear. Cost: for both with all the labor was right at $200.00
1. craigslist

2. take it to a spring shop and have them rebuild the pack to your specifications (lift, oem height..etc)
Check at an autoparts store. I remember that we could get them. I think either Moog or Monroe made them. but look around here first there are usually people selling them used. List what kind of truck you got, 2wd/4wd, reg/ex-cab, and 4cyl/v6 that will help someone come to you.
Take the broken leaf out, then make your way to a junk yard?
Thanks for the help guys. I think I found a junkyard with one....just gotta go in and pull it off the truck.

Also, its a 2001 V6 ext cab 4x4. Let me know if any of you are looking to get some off your hands

And as to why I havent checked it out sooner, just as glassdoc stated, its beeen miserable up here. Trucks normally make noises and rattle when theirs snow packed in every little crevice. Ive given quick checks but never spotted it before...its kinda hard.
eh its a mistake man.. I'm willing to bet any time there is a rattle in any vehicle you ever own you'll check it out..

its all a learning experience
Alcan sell stock replacmen packs for 190 each plus u-bolts and shipping.
The stock Toyota leaf springs are not so great. Look at Toyota trucks you see around town from the 80's and 90's and you'll notice that most of them sag in the rear. This is not normal, it's because the leaf springs are quitters. Go with some aftermarket ones or get them rebuilt at a spring shop.

go for the junkyard one to get you by then once you get money go aftermarket. or if you really wanna rig it have someone weld it so the leaf doesnt fall out rofl

HAHA....well your close....I actually have it wrapped with electrical tape right now to stop the rattling! LOL

But seriously, I found a guy that repairs them and he told me that could do the job for $150. He said that he would pull the spring off and put a new leaf in where the broken one is. Said bout 1 hour turn around so im going in Saturday morning. Ill let you know how it goes.

Also, was looking online and found these, anyone have any experience with them? Would they be worth the purchase? I was looking at the 5 leaf ones.
