i did mine in black lacquer appliance paint. i really only did them for ****s and giggles and to see what black wheels would look like on my truck in person. it was also practice for when i did my X-Runner wheels black.

the white/grey on the wheels is just over spray, it came off with some mild acetone. i taped up my XR wheels a lot better then i did the steelies.

where you from in FLA?

so how many coats did you use??? and how many clear coats did you use??
what i did was: cleaned them with soap and water, scuffed them up real good with a Scotch Brite pad, cleaned them again but with some alcohol, primed with automotive primer (2 coats:1 dust coat, 1 wet), then shot with the black lacquer paint (3 coats: 1 dust, 2 wet).

i let them dry for about 10 min between coats, basically by the time i got done doing a coat on all of them i was ready to do the first wheel again, just did a circuit.

i didn't use clear, on either set. they're still holding up great a few years later, no chips.

what about the balancing weights, wouldnt they scratch the rim once you get new ones on?

uhh well for my stockers i dont think ill evre get them re-balbanced because theyre just a spare. and if i do i'll just paint them. the XR wheels are balanced on the inside of the rim.
