I'm just curious, I havent seen this done anywhere yet, but I'm wondering if you can change the automatic shift knob on a '97-'00 Tacoma for an aftermarket one? or do something to it to give a little more flair.

If you can remove it, then you can replace it. Just try to unscrew it:)
Yes - it's possible.

The main problem is finding an aftermarket shift knob that fits the Taco auto shifter.

Your choices are even more limited if you need to accommodate an O/D button.
i would just recommend using something threaded to fit it specifically...avoiding 'univeral' shifters that utilize plastic thread caps and set screws, they never stay in place very well

I don't think I've ever seen a shift knob listed for a Tacoma column shifter. Since I've never had occasion to look for one, this doesn't mean there isn't such a thing.

There are such things as aftermarket shifter knobs that include a switch. These are usually used to trigger (e.g.) NOS injection, but in principle you should be able to rig it to trigger the overdrive function.
