AFR Ranges

Hey,

I'm just currious to see what a good AFR should be for gas milage...more for when i'm in 6th at 2500-3k rpm's. I've noticed that i'm around 13 or so (Using my Scan Guage 2) when in this range. I'm running 15-17 when in the 2-2.5K range with no . :waytogo:

I'm also getting P0172/P0175 CEL's every once in a while when at idle and when I floor it, (like 10.2 ish area) so I think a general leaning out is in order.

Um, lets see, I got URD TCAI, MAF Calibrator, JBA Cat back exhaust, Doug Thorly headers with the URD 02 sim thingy...

I'm already going to tune the MAF some (once I get my USB to Serial thing to work), so its just a question of how lean to take it.

I'm right around 27K miles, so I know I need new spark plugs soon, do you think that new sparkies would help the AFR rise some?
As always, any help is very much appreciated!! :waytogo::bow::headbang:

In closed loop you can't adjust the AFR (unless you have AFR sensor calibrator) the ECU will fight to stay 14.7 however there is something called fuel trims and if you add or take so much fuel that the Toyota ECU can't adjust the fuel trims to keep the AFR at 14.7 in closed loop you can have a lean or rich condition. That's why you have a P0172 and P0175 which are "too rich" codes.

Have you been playing too much with the map?

Load the base map or contact Gadget at URD.

Hey Pug407,

I forgot to add that the base map is loaded (as I got it) and I haven’t played with the map yet. :doah:

But as far as the AFR goes, I intend to play with the fuel trims some to increase the AFR (and in turn, hopefully lean the system up so I don’t get any CEL lights and get some better gas mileage). And I expect this tuning process to be long with a lot of small changes (and frequent saves)

I think I may have confused you with my questions, when I’m playin with this, should I be more concerned with the AFR or the Short/Long “Trim %”

And just to make sure that I don’t dork this up, but I should not use map B (timing retard) because I’m N/A, correct?

Before I start playin around, should I put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and change the spark plugs, since its getting close?

As always, that’s for your input and help!!! :clapping::meemee::headbang::waytogo::bow:

Make sure you have the air filter properly installed on the very end of the intake tube. If you have it slid on to far you will induce a serious MAF sensor error and the engine will run overly rich.

G
Gadget,

Is that error a P0101 by chance?
-Jake
No. For that you need to check your wiring.

Ah...time to break out my gun check my solders....
Thanks Gadget.
Hey,

I got into the fuel trim map during lunch just now and I saw that all entry's were set to a value of "10." So I changed all fields to a 9.8 for now.

I remember seeing a link or a web page where people had posted up their fuel trim maps. I tried doing a search for it but I can't find it. So can someone help me out and post a link to it or send it via email or PM?
