I need to replace my front bumper for my '96 Tacoma, and i was wondering... do i need to replace the lower part beneath the bumper as well (the lower valence is what it is i think)? Or can i just replace the bumper and re-use the existing part? Any help is appreciated.

Re: \'96 front bumper

Yeh, I would think that you could just replace the bumper part, unless the bumper itself is damaged.

In fact, my new 95-97 4x4 bumper and valence came in today. It looks like the two are attached with a series of bolts between them.

I work in a collision center, and just worked on a 97' Tacoma 4x4, the bumper is in two sections and comes that way from Toyota, there is a series of bolts that attatches the bumper to the valance (10mm). If you are replacing it, I reccomend a Genuine Toyota part, the aftermarket ones are not very good, the chrome is thin and they tend to rust out pretty quick, another case of you get what you pay for.

If it is a new bumper, it should have a sticker inside that will have R-DOT, may or may not have any Toyota info inside, check to see what if any stampings are inside. Let me know what you find out, try pricing one at a Toyota dealer, they are only about $200.00 Canadian for the chrome piece, that would be like $140.00 American. An aftermarket lower valance would work fine, and fits pretty good.
