Hey guys I have a 2001 toyota tacoma prerunner and I am currently putting a 5.3l ls in it. I have run in to a issue with my cxracing motor mounts not lining up so I contacted them and their RnD guy said that 4wd/prerunners have wider motor mounts than a 2wd model truck. Just seeing if you guys have any info as I can't find any.

What engine did this 2001 PreRunner originally have?

According to the 2001 - 2004 parts list, there is a difference.

One pair of brackets is labeled for engine mounting on a PreRunner:

51401-35320 (Both sides; 4-cylinder)
51401-35310 (Both sides; 6-cylinder)

The 5-lug mini is shown as using a pair of front mounts (equivalent to the ones above) plus a single rear engine mounting bracket:

Front: (2 req'd)
51401-35330 (Both sides; 4-cylinder)
51401-35340 (Both sides; 6-cylinder)

Rear: (1 req'd)
4-Cylinder:
51431-35160 (Manual)
51431-35170 (Automatic)

6-Cylinder:
51431-35180

The parts diagrams aren't that clear, but they seem to show the PreRunner engine mounts attached to the frame's side rails and the 5-lug mini's front engine mounts attached to the #2 crossmember (which is quite different from the 6-lug cross member).
