2rz weight vs 302

Roughly how much does the 2RZ weigh? Trying to figure out how much heavier a Ford 302 is since I believe when you include the side mounted Intake Manifold on the 2rz, it is no wider than the 302...minus the headers.

well in case anyone else cares, the 2rz weighs in at right around 320lbs, the ford at 440ish. With some aluminum cylinder heads the ford drops down to right around 360lbs. All while staying within the same dimensions as the 2rz, all that may be needed is a custom header to clear the steering rack. Even the oil pan on the mustangs 302 should clear the crossmember of the tacoma if I recall correctly. Engine swap here i come :)

P.S. Can an admin move this thread to wherever it should be, I suck at choosing the right forums :(
Are you sure you not just getting the weight for a long block? Even so it will work if you have fab skillz, time, and money.

Not going to handle too well but it will have plenty of power no doubt.

You will need to upgrade to QA1 front coilover setup due to the new weight bias or some other kind of front end stiffening, also probably a 9 inch rear or at least a Toyota 6 cyl rear end.

yeah i have been looking into springs for the front, as far as the rear end i have heard our tacoma rear ends are pretty strong, Is it true they axle shafts are the same as a ford 9 inch? and as far is the diff is it pretty strong being the modular design?

I wouldnt trust the torque of a V8 with the stock 7.5 rear, especially if you have traction, and build the motor, I would venture to say that the axles are not anywhere close to a 9 inch ford axle, if you dont get traction a 7.5 may live for a while if you upgrade the axles and put a locker in it like Ochizon, he has had luck with the 7.5 rearend and upgraded axles, it may work as long as your not launching from 5000rpms with slicks.
nice choice on the 302.. I love the chevy sb, but the dist in the back kills it for me.
+1 I like the SBF because of the dist being in front too. If you go this route try the Ford Explorer 5.0 factory headers they clear good on V8 Ranger swaps.
a cheap upgrade on the 5.0 is if you run Ford Explorer heads, they have a bit more flow according
to a flow bench and a slight bump in compression according to a Ford magazine I read it in..
You are correct, they use GT40P heads, flow 10x's better then any other factory Ford head.

Yep, the good old GT40P. Great heads.
i say build the RZ and spank the V8 boys when they pull up next to you.... but thats just me... i remember all the faces of those poor lil V8 boys faces when they cant keep up with our lil 4's
Yeah I had a 302 in my old stang and i always wanted to do the gt40p head swap... but good to know about the Exploder headers. And as for the build the 2rz one.... I can give you two really good reasons why I already ruled that out.

1) lack of cheap aftermarket support
2) doesnt make the ground shake and scare off 03 cobras like my 302 with a FRPP B303 camshaft did :)

Im not trying to build the fastest tacoma, just something different.
I vote do it!
500rwhp easy on a 302 not so easy on a 2rz. the accessories is the extra weight and 2 headers

not that easy lol...still gotta build the motor..and build it right...if not you can always pick another one up for 200 bucks.
a well built one will last and it will tear it up(including my supercharged S )

1: lack is because it isnt over flooded with parts unlike the stang market which is good.
2: no need to scare it can make all the noise it wants and still go no where...
built for built ill put a 4 banger again a V8 equally built!
I guess its nicer to smoke people and show them there is only 4 cylinders doing the work..I have had the same reaction to my truck when I beat people, they say, Do you have a V6 in there......nope 4 cylinders buddy.:D

haha you fell of your rocker if you think a 302 is gonna make 500 wheel.......yea on a hot lil 347ci with a sick set of heads and some compression you will make 500, but not a 302 on motor
