07 trd sport wheel swap

no, they will not fit, not OEM 16" wheels anyways, without spacers. my dad has a 2008 toyota tacoma sport, and he got some 16" oem wheels for his winter set, and they didnt fit at first. in order for him to have no clearance issues, he had to put i believe, .5" wheel spacers. after wheel spacers, there wasn't any issue.

as far as 16" aftermarket wheels clearing, the right backspacing should take care of that. if you search, you can get the exact backspacing needed to clear your calipers with no issues.

on my generation tacoma, i have a 2002 trd package, and came stock with 16" wheels. a while back, i attempted to buy 15" mickey thompson classic 2's and i couldnt even come close to get the wheel on the studs before i had clearance issues with my calipers. its kind of a hit or miss, because i know some buddies of mine,and a few fellas on here who have cleared 15" wheel on this gen. taco with no problems.

thanks mike, i might as well go bigger with the wheels then, maybe an 18" or even a 20", don't know yet? all i know is that these 285/70/R17 MTRs are too rough a ride for me and i pull a bass boat half the year and need a better riding tire and thought i might upgrade my wheels while i'm at it!

Really? The 16" tacoma wheels won't fit on a truck with the TRD sport package? I wasn't aware that there was any difference in the front brakes between the TRD sport and TRD Off Road package. Can I get a confirmation on this? This doesn't sound right (but i've been wrong before)

well to be honest, i didn't think there was any difference either, but when i called wheelersoffroad to order those sweet 16" pro comp wheels, they told me that they wouldn't fit over my brake calipers cause i got 17" wheels and the brake calipers were bigger. i need to call toyota and confirm this though i guess.

The Tacoma Off Road package comes with 16" wheels stock, so why wouldn't those fit on a TRD Sport?

they say that the brake calipers and rotors are bigger? thats the rumor anyways. not sure yet.

not true---some 16" wheels wont fit, but the TRD off roads will fit for sure.

The brake calipers are exactly the same between the Sport and Off Road models. Other differences but none that would prevent the wheels from being swapped.

^^ so your saying my eyes lie to me. i was right there, the 16" wheels did not fit, without modification.(spacers)

thanks 02trd! when i switch out my wheels here in the next few weeks i'll go bigger instead of smaller. just gotta find a wheel that my tire sensors will work in. probably go with 20 inchers! :waytogo:

on a serious note, 20's on your truck will look good. you might want to try and get a hold of those 20" chrome wheels that come on the texas edition tacoma/tundra. they look real sharp.

on 05+ tacoma 4x4's the calipers and front brake setups are the exact same. Stock tacoma wheels are all interchangeable between 4x4 and prerunner models.

this is very true...me and my buddies were bored 1 day and everyone switched their oem tires and wheels with each other just to see the difference in looks...all 16" OEM rims for the 4x4 and prerunner tacomas can be swapped without fitment issues...:waytogo:
