2001 Tacoma Quad Cab Prerunner Turbo

The truck 2001 Tacoma quad cab prerunner TRD with rear locker, 248k miles in darn near mint condition




The plan: CXRacing kit (full kit minus the wastegate and turbo)



Holset hx35 turbo, piggyback (AEM FIC or MAP ECU), 550cc injectors, Transgo valve body, possibly restalled converter

The goal will be 8psi daily, and 12ish psi for track. I will be reusing my progressive Coolingmist methanol setup but just tapping the factory windshield washer reservoir and spraying -20* blue washer fluid.

There's not a ton of documentation so far on the WWW regarding installation of CXRacing 5vz kit yet, so I'm gonna document any troubles I run into.

First trouble I ran up against was the installation of the passenger side manifold. The bottom and rearmost 2 nuts are impossible to get on and torque down unless you remove your starter. No big deal, just remove the 2 14mm bolts and pull it out of the bellhousing and out of the way. I didn't have to remove the plug or the positive terminal.

I eventually maybe want to run e85, so does it make sense to get mapecu3 so I can advance timing? Or should I go with AEM FIC and just not pull timing. When I was running stock ECU and spray methanol it was really strong with just no timing retard, don't know if I was leaving easy power on the table by not being able to advance. Does anybody have a suggestion?

Well I just realized I'm the only one that can post here. I wanted feedback and people to be able to ask questions. Oh well, I probably won't keep this thread up.

It's nearly done- how about that for progress update. It's been a reasonably tough kit to put together. Everything does fit really nicely, but it's all tight and limited space for wrenches. Would be a lot easier if the motor was out of the truck.

CXRacing didn't include it, but you need a 90* 3/8npt to -4an fitting (not included) for the engine block to stainless feed line (included).
