Spare Tire help!

I lifted my mini and now comes time for the spare tire question. Can I just go buy a used 31x10.5 R15 tire and mount it to the stock spare wheel? I know 29" is the largest u can go on a 15x6 wheel, but will mounting a 31" tire on it work? Will it wear the tire out even if I am not riding on it?

Re: Spare Tire help!

it's the width not the height that matters. Id ont know if you can mount a 10.5" wide tire on a 6" rim. I mean you can get it on the rim, but its not a good idea.

The width would be fine for a spare the thing to be worried about is is the backspacing correct on your factory spare.

Re: Spare Tire help!

Well if my factory spare works on the suspension lift with a stock tire, shouldn't it work just as well with a 31" tire?

Re: Spare Tire help!

well i mean shoudn't it fit on the hub if it fits with the 26" stock tires? A 31" tire shouldn't cause any backspacing problems right?

Re: Spare Tire help!

it would be the rim not the tire causing backspacing probs, um. if your stock wheels fit and have bout a inch or so spce between the spindle and tire then the 31 10.5 should fit. in theory.

Well the thing is that the tire is going to be wider so if the stock tire is close to any of the suspension then putting a wider tire on there may cause it to rub. The reason I bring this up is because on a 4x4 or prerunner the widest tire you can run on the stock wheels is an 11.50 because anything wider will rub the upper control arm. (I know you have a mini I was just using that as an example)
