What size should I go with

Whats goin on guys? Got an 01 and wanna do the 3/4 balljoint and block drop in spring and wanna go with 17s for wheels possibly. Question is if I do 17s what size tire will work best to fill the wheel well but not rub? Also if you guys got any pics of the same thing that would be rad to see for reference

Re: What size should I go with

its not necessarily the tire size that is the determining factor. its the width and offset of the wheel.

for reference i have ran 17x7.5 +38 wheels with 225/45/17 tires on 2wd fenders and a 3/4. fit nicely.

Re: What size should I go with

Hey guys. wasnt sure if a new topic would be necessary. I have an '02 tacoma xtra cab 2wd with stock wheels and tires. lowered 3/4 with bj flip and lowering blocks. Im getting noisy wheel rub on sharp turns (driveway) and coming off exit ramps (40+ mph only) in the front end. the rear end seems to be doing fine. Where do I start? Would prefer bigger wheels, but the whole wheel/tire offset specs get confusing. And do you think the exit ramp rub is more suspension related than wheel and tire?

Re: What size should I go with

The rubbing is from the force on suspension... coming down off ramp and loading up the front end, it sinks down and makes em rub
Same thing with the turning, it transfers weight to that spring/shock and it drops..known as body roll as well
If it's doing it pretty much at a stop when turning, you may be hitting sway bar, or lower part of inner fender, or actual fender lip (you will have to look and find out exactly where it touches, should be kinda obvious)

Stiffer spring rates and shocks will help it
Smaller tires would give you more clearance between tire and inner fender which would reduce rubbing.

Re: What size should I go with

As far as bigger wheels, just look up your tire size now on google, get a overall height, and try to stay close but just a little shorter then stock on new wheel. Example, if your tires are 25 inches now, stay around 24-25 on your bigger wheels.
Offset of wheel will depend on width of wheel to whether it will tuck or rub
