Question 95.5 Alarm Issue

Purchased a new to me Tacoma recently that has the RS3000 system in it but had no key fob. I ordered one from amazon and had it programmed in 20 seconds. One small glitch though, it turns the alarm on and off and will unlock the doors, but arming doesn't lock the doors. Is there some setting that is off? the door lock button inside the armrest does work though with no issues. Thoughts?

Re: 95.5 Alarm Issue

Do you happen to know whether the RS3000 was dealer-installed originally versus being added later?

I don't know 100%, I do know it has been installed since at least 2005, there is a service record of the ECU being replaced for the security system back then I found on the Toyota site with the Vin.

Re: 95.5 Alarm Issue

There have been different versions of the RS3000. By 2000 they were on V3 (Version 3), and older ones weren't maintained in inventory.

If you alarm's ECU "brain" was swapped out circa 2005 there's a good chance it's a later version.

If you can locate the ECU, get the part number and version number (if it's shown anywhere on the ECU). If it's a V3 or later I might have the documentation for it. I don't have any documentation for anything earlier than V3.

Re: 95.5 Alarm Issue

There's a chance it can't work for the door lock function, but I don't know for sure. Here's why ...

Effective with the late 2000 or start of the 2001 model year, the "brain" controlling your interior / accessory stuff (such as door locks) changed from an "Integration Relay" to a "Body ECU." I've never been able to figure out what differences there are between these 2 distinct devices.

As far as I can tell, your RS3000 ECU (08190-00921) may be a pre-2000 model (i.e., pre-V3). It was the V3 TVIP unit that was designed to work with the Body ECU setup from 2001 onward.

... But like I said - I simply don't know for sure what the differences are and / or whether it makes any difference in getting the power locks to work on a pre-2000 Taco.

In the service history from the Vin,there was also a ticket for a short in the security system, I'm wondering if that short has appeared again and that's what's causing the issue?

I have no idea ...

The possible use of a pre-2000 TVIP unit with a 2001 Taco would suggest there's been a custom installation. There's no way to tell what you've got and how it's wired in without having a specialist check it out.

I'm not sure it's worth it ... It may be cheaper and better (for the long run) to simply install a new aftermarket alarm system.

Hey Enola, my tacoma is actually a 1995.5. Not sure if i listed that wrong, i do have an 01 4x4 but that's another vehicle not related to this. (just noticed my profile showed the 4x4. updated it)

I've attached screen grabs of the service history i found on the Tacoma website for reference
