Installing 05+ oil pressure gauge

I have an 06 double cab with the 4.0L and I am doing a gauge pod. I'm putting in a volt gauge and an oil pressure gauge. I'm not exactly sure how to go about installing the oil pressure gauge. I have found a lot of info on the older engines but nothing on the 4.0L. Some questions I have are:

where do I hook up the sender unit on the 4.0L motor specifically?
what fitting do I use?
when I remove the idiot light switch to hook up the sender unit, will the idiot light come on? (I'd rather not do a T fitting unless I have to)

You can always use a "sandwitch adapter" that goes between the oil filter and the engine block and has 1/6 npt ports in it

Re: Installing 05+ oil pressure gauge

I have seen those but I would rather just use the idiot light port if at all possible. I am just concerned that if I disconnect the light sensor that it light up on my dash.

Why dont you want to use the adapter the simplify things, I just did gauges on an 07 Suby STI and used one, I think it was less than $60 and it made everything really easy and I didnt have to mess with any other stuff, the stock senders were not modified in any way.

also the port in the block is metric and the gauge is probably an NPT 1/8" , so it wont fit without an adapter anyway, just trying to help ya...

actually i think its BPT... not metric. its horrible. i agree with Speed. make it simple before you get yourself too involved and cant turn back.

Re: Installing 05+ oil pressure gauge

The oil sender unit is a switch that completes the circuit to turn on the light. Disconnecting the switch will not flip the light on because it will kill the circuit. Try disconnecting the plug to see for yourself. If you're willing to part with the idiot light, then all you have to do is (probably) get a 1/8 BSPT to 1/8 NPT adapter.

Yeah BSPD, I stand corrected....but just saying I think I would want my idiot light to work, since I dont glue my eyes to the gauge, but I probably will see a red light on the dash....so I could shut it down quickly...

Re: Installing 05+ oil pressure gauge

The truth is the idiot light only comes on at 3 PSI of oil pressure or something. You could get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge with a warning light, although these cost a whole lot more.

Resurrecting an old thread from the dead...
Is the gasket with those adapters pretty good quality? I'd think it would wear over time replacing the oil filter over and over.
