Chevy Colorado to get a V8 in '08?
One of the latest and hottest rumors running rampant in the compact truck scene (can we really call it that anymore?) was brought to light earlier this week by PickupTruck.com. The rumor? We'll see a V8 in the Chevrolet Colorado in 2008.
Their sources claim that GM will begin producing the Colorado its GMC counterpart, the Canyon, the same 295-horsepower 5.3-liter small block V8 that is slated to arrive in the Hummer H3 next year. Experts have also reasoned that this new powerplant would feature the same highway cylinder-deactivation that has already proven to be a gas saver for Chevy's full size truck customers.
As Tacoma owners, this raises a few interesting questions. Among them: Should we expect to see a V8 in a Tacoma in the next 3-4 years? Is it even necessary to put a V8 in a compact truck? What will this do for GM's Colorado/Canyon sales?
One thing is for sure: This is still just a rumor. GM spokesmen have refused to confirm this story and have only replied, "Stay tuned."
