August Toyota Sales Highest Ever, Surpasses Chrysler
Columbia, SC NBC affiliate WISTV reported that Toyota's August sales report reveals their best-ever sales month. Even more intriguing than that the sales figures for last month exceeded those of Daimler/Chrysler.
Here's an excerpt from the news story on their website on September 5, 2003:
The auto industry's "Big Three" is now the "Big Four." Toyota outsold Chrysler in August, the first time one of Detroit's "Big Three" automakers has fallen to fourth place.
With Toyota celebrating its best-ever sales month and total automotive sales up 11% since July, economists are hoping this could be a sure sign of the economy turning around.

Toyota Announces 2004 Tacoma
In a press release dated September 1, 2003, Toyota disclosed details of the 2004 lineup of Tacoma trucks.
It is now apparent that any rumors about a redesign of the model for the 2004 model year were false. Here's what's new for 2004:
The standard four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) is newly augmented for 2004 by the Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) feature and Brake Assist. EBD optimizes brake pressure at each wheel for greater control under braking, especially when cornering. The Brake Assist system is designed to determine if the driver is attempting emergency braking. If the driver has not stepped hard enough on the brake pedal to engage the ABS, the system supplements the applied braking power until pedal pressure is released.
The available Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system on 4x4 models helps keep the vehicle going on its intended course by detecting front-wheel slide and rear-wheel slide during cornering and attempting to control either condition with throttle intervention and/or by braking individual wheels.
Unchanged is the optional locking rear differential as an option on PreRunner V6 models and 4x4 V6 models.
3 body styles will continue to be offered: regular cab, Xtracab, and double cab.
The S-runner will continue to be offered in 2004, unchanged. It will still only be offered in radiant red and black.
Powerplants in the Tacoma lineup will remain unchanged: 2.4L and 2.7L 4 cylinder engines and the 3.4L V6.
The TRD package will still be offered with 4x4 and PreRunner models.
Additionally, some interesting statistics were revealed in today's press release. Most notably:
Forty percent of all Tacoma models sold are 4x4 models.
PreRunners account for a third of all Tacoma sales, the most popular configuration being the V6 Double Cab.
The Double Cab models account for nearly a third of Tacoma sales in the United States
