5 lug tacoma rear diff lsd or locker???

My friend is looking for an lsd setup for his 02 tacoma 2wd 5 lug truck. Im pretty sure its a 7.5., where do u find them at?

Hey I'm new to tacos I have a 1990 v6 single longbed 1ton 5 lug 5 speed what stock lsd diff can I use. Any idea what size diff I have. I may just spool one up and keep my og for a spare

I hear that you can use the older supra LSD rear ends just a swap

1989 - 1995 'PreTaco' V6's were normally fitted with the so-called 'V6 / Turbo' rear differential unit.

This is a different unit from the so-called '7.5' found in 4-cylinder PreTacos and 1995.5 - 2004 Tacos. It is also a totally different 'species' from the so-called '8.4' rear end used in 1995.5 - 2004 V6 Tacos.

The 'V6 / Turbo' unit was the basis for the factory e-locker unit available as an option or as part of the TRD Off Road Package. This is the only form in which the 'V6 / Turbo' unit appeared on 1995.5 - 2004 Tacos. This unit continued to be used on 4Runners after 1995.5.

It would be a good idea to check your specifications sticker (plate, whatever) and report the axle code you should find there. There are two reasons for this:

(1) There are known instances of V6 PreTacos which came from the factory with the '7.5' rear end.

(2) Certain 'V6 / Turbo' units were specifically configured for 4.88 gears, and these units cannot be regeared with aftermarket gears designed for non-4.88 V6 / Turbo units.

you have to shave 1/2'' off each axle to do this

I'm at pick in pull now and I see a third member with a sensor on it is it the taction controll or speed sensor. What third member should. I look for?

Speed sensor is in the transmission not the rearend...you may be looking at a locker style from a Pre-runner if it has a motor hanging off the side of the diff with a connector plug on it..

Speaking of E-lockers..you might want to consider that as an option. Here's a link describing what you would need to modify to make it fit.

I've done it before, and its really not too difficult. I'd recommend pulling it from a Pre-Runner, complete with rear wiring harness and diff-lock ECU with connectors. Or at least the diff-lock ECUwith connectors and the pig-tail that goes to the diff.

The speed sensor on top of the diff housing was used on vehicles with Rear ABS. ..nothing special..
Another note: Although a factory locker was not available on pre Tacos in the US market, other markets such as Australia had factory LSDs in their "Hilux" utes. Don't know how much of a pain that would be to source.
