Default Airbag deployed late...

Ok so I don't want to go into details but i wrecked my X. Acttually I found that it makes a fairly decient airplane. She flew about 30 some feet before landing. But the airbag didn't go off till a few seconds after impact. Seriously? Have you ever been hit in the face with a pillow at 250mph? So Just thought id let someone know.

I knew they made the side mirrors that big for a reason...

Seriously, though ...

You said the airbag deployed "a few seconds after impact". Do you mean the truck was sitting still / at rest when the airbag finally deployed? What was the nature of the main impact (from which: side / front / back?), and were there no jolts from the front after that?

There've been complaints about the 2005+ airbags not deploying in situations where there was a significant impact. The (apparent) explanation is that the SRS system isn't likely to trigger on anything other than a *frontal* impact.

... But (assuming one interpretation, if that's the case ...) yours is the first report I've heard where there was a delayed post-impact airbag deployment.

Did you somehow get hit on the side first, then the front got hit after the initial accident? This would concern the hell out of me if I had an X

Well my guess is they use the same airbags in all 05+ Tacomas so I dont think it matters which model your driving.

Man that sucks double. The only time I was in an accident where the airbags deployed I was unconcious for about 20sec or more... the airbags had gone down when my friend (driver) and i came to.

Glad to hear that you are okay. I hit a light signal pole making a left turn at 50 mph with no seat belt in my dodge dakota and walked away from it. The air bag hit my face so hard it almost broke my noise, but it saved my life.
