Default How do you connect amp to 01 xtracab rear speakers?

Hello,

I have a 2001 Tacoma Xtracab and a Kicker Hideaway (powered sub).

If I follow the instructions on this website for speaker removal:

Do I need to access both rear speakers to connect to my sub/amp? or can I just connect it to one?

Will there be a wire that can be used for auto turn-on?(won't use battery power when vehicle turned off)

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Where exactly is the power antenna wire?

Do you need to remove the stereo to get to it?

Thanks

You can remove the head unit to do everything you need to do (it's MUCH easier than removing the rear panels to get to the speakers). You can either wire your sub amp to the rear speaker outputs on the back of the head unit through each speaker wire and run the lines back to wherever you choose to mount the amp, or, you can wire in a line converter (http://compare.ebay.com/like/3305366...Types&var=sbar) to run RCA cables to the amp.

The power antenna wire (usually blue) is in the harness behind the radio as well.

There is no power antenna connection on a 2001. The power antenna was discontinued by the time the 2001 - 2004 generation came out.

Here (attached) is the 2001 radio / stereo wiring diagram. According to the Kicker manual available online at:

http://www.kicker.com/sites/default/...%20Rev%20M.pdf

... you'll need to splice your quick-connect harness to the factory head unit's speaker lines. You should be able to use either front or rear speaker lines, as long as you splice into both right and left channels.

The Kicker manual lists the following layout for the sub unit's speaker lines:

Quote:
Quick-connect harness audio inputs:

White = Left +
White/Black = Left –

Grey = Right +
Grey/Black = Right –

Ok. So I guess you can easily tap into the 12v power outlet for an amp trigger/remote turn on since they only have voltage when the ign is on.

Looks like one of those "under seat" type subs. More for driver "feel" than noise.

Thanks for all the help!

If I ended up getting a new head unit with rca output, could I simply connect my sub to that instead of splicing wires? And could I just plug the factory wiring harness into the new head unit?
